Allergies: An Ayurvedic Perspective

An allergy is a hypersensitive body reaction when some material comes into contact with it. In an allergic reaction, a person can experience a slightly uncomfortable feeling of fatal anaphylaxis.

The most common allergens that cause allergies are dust mites, pollen, mold spores, cosmetics, pet dander, insect stings, food, medicines, etc. Allergies occur when the Immune system of a person responds to chemicals that are harmless to other people in the environment. Normally your immune system fights germs, it is your body’s defense system.

The immune system of each person responds differently to the allergens that cause these sensitivities. Therefore, an allergen-causing allergy for one individual may be perfectly normal for another person.

Because of the increased sensitivity of the body towards allergen which causes sneezing, itchy eyes, difficulty in breathing, etc., it can affect anybody right from children to adults.

According to Ayurvedic, each person has a unique constitution. Ayurveda explains how such diets that are not consistent with our Ayurvedic constitution are more likely to result in an allergy that associates with the outer body. It’s actually because of a hypersensitive or poorly functioning immune system. Ayurveda focuses upon strengthening the immune system rather than eradicating an urgency in our environment, which is near impossible.

This is mostly due to slow digestion and removal of ama- Undigested Food Particles contributing to the accumulation. Furthermore, the accumulation of ama (undigested food particles) contributes to the accumulation of toxins and impurities in tissues, predisposing them to an excessive allergic reaction.

Ayurvedic medicines mostly focused on strengthening the immune system via first regularizing digestion and Metabolism. Many patients who suffer from allergic rhinitis have many disorders that are related to the gut or digestion. some complaints which are considered are very minor by the patients like acidity, but in the longer run, these are the disorders or these are the imbalances that lead to the development of respiratory allergies. Medicines like Chawanprash, ashwagandha are used to strengthen immune systems.  depending on the age and the severity of the symptoms experienced by the patient unique plans or treatment plans are devised for each patient.  many treatments are available in Ayurveda depending upon the patient’s conditions. In Ayurveda, medicines are typically given in the form of tablets or a powder and liquids.

Also, the Digestive Fire imbalances that could contribute to the development of ama will be decided by an Agni evaluation. One can avoid allergies and learn to prevent them by following these guidelines. It is therefore appropriate and important to avoid and prevent sensitivities by adopting this holistic approach and maintaining a diet matched with your Ayurvedic constitution.

Eating fresh, organic, full of prana, seasonal fruits that are perfect for the season is allergy preventive. The cause of allergic sensitivities is a lot of foods that are refined, frozen, not natural, consisting of preservatives, colorants, or other chemical additives. Thus they should be avoided.

Yoga and Pranayama enhance the natural defense mechanism according to Ayurveda, thereby being an effective way of avoiding allergies. To prevent the transfer of such chemicals to an infant, mothers who breastfeed should avoid foods containing chemicals, preservatives, and additives.
