ED Drugs May Help People With Vascular Disorder Raynaud’s Phenomenon

Erectile dysfunction drugs hold out hope for patients with symptoms of advanced Raynaud’s phenomenon. Active ingredients in Viagra and Cialis appear to reduce the severity of symptoms and help to prevent tissue damage.

The vasodilating properties of erectile dysfunction medications, such as Viagra and Cialis, could provide relief for patients suffering from the debilitating effects of secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon (also known as Raynaud’s syndrome).

Raynaud’s is a vascular disorder in which blood vessel spasms, triggered by extreme cold or emotional stress, disrupt normal blood flow to the fingers and toes, causing numbness and discoloration. Secondary Raynaud’s occurs when patients are resistant to normal vasodilation therapy, raising the specter of irreparable Tissue Damage and possible amputation.

Studies Support Drug’s Use

A small-scale German study, published in a 2005 issue of Circulation, found that Raynaud’s patients treated with sildenafil citrate, Viagra’s active ingredient, experienced significantly fewer attacks than those given placebo.

Similar findings emerged from a French Study Published in a 2013 issue of the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, which looked at the effects of three different ED medications: sildenafil, tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil hydrochloride (Levitra). That study found that these ED medications demonstrated “significant but moderate efficacy” in treating secondary Raynaud’s.

A U.K. study, published in the April 2018 issue of Rheumatology, evaluated the effects of oral sildenafil, intravenous epoprostenol, and oral bosentan — both separately and in combination — in treating advanced Raynaud’s symptoms. Most effective in reducing the pain of symptoms was the combination of sildenafil and IV epoprostenol.

That combination also virtually eliminated the incidence of digital ulceration among the patients treated. As previously noted, insufficient blood flow to the finger and toes can eventually cause tissue damage, which leads to ulceration and in extreme cases amputation.

Men who treat their ED symptoms with Viagra or another of the popular impotence medications can often save time and money by ordering those drugs from longtime online facilitator eDrugstore.com. To learn more, visit eDrugstore’s Erectile Dysfunction page.
