Cartoons and their Effects on children

Cartoons and Children

One of the most common and regular hobbies of Children is to watch cartoons. They watch it during lunch, dinner, before going to bed and whenever they find the time. What if I tell you that this could damage the personality of a child? Several times we observe that a child has learned something that is unusual and is not according to his age or culture. Then starts the blame game, parents blame teachers for not paying attention to children while teachers blame parents for not giving time to their children, but no one pays attention to this hidden culprit that are cartoons.

Development of children

Cartoons affect the development of children in such a way that they find violence funny and humorous. Let’s take the example of a famous cartoon TOM and JERRY. Whenever tom hits jerry or vice versa sometimes a laughing or funny sound is played in the background so that children find this funny.

Also, when any of the cartoon characters are hit, they revive and go back to being normal, or even if they are shown injured when the bandages are removed there is no scar. The child watching this is the learning stage and tries to copy it in real life, but the results are not as expected by him. Someone he hits gets seriously injured and then the child is scolded badly.

Legislation regarding Cartoons in Punjab Assembly

A while ago PTI submitted a resolution in the Punjab assembly against the Japanese cartoon Doraemon. PTI wanted a ban on those cartoons. A large majority made fun of this resolution claiming that there are several more important issues in the country than banning some random cartoons. But let’s have a look at this so-called random and childish cartoon.

First, they promote dependency on gadgets other than working hard so children would want shortcuts instead of doing work. The second thing is covering up bullying and promoting hiding it from parents. This would increase depression among children as they would hide it from their parents if they are being bullied thinking that if their favorite cartoon character is doing it so they should do it too.

Also, that cartoon promotes affairs among children who are in the 4th class. That is bold for children of that young age. Now if a political party asks to ban on such cartoons then there is nothing to made fun of, but everyone should support it as those cartoons are destroying the minds of the young generation.

Source of Education

Cartoons could be a source of educating the young generation by making the content better and when children are watching cartoons parents could guide them about the difference between real and reel life and limiting their television watching time. This could help reduce the effects of cartoons on children.
