Types of Acne

Comedonal acne

This acne forms because through a combination of oil and old skin cells, that get trapped in the skin block pores. This acne is revealed in the form of white and black heads, and generally appears most often on the forehead, nose, and chin.

Inflammatory acne

This acne forms when the area underneath a black or whitehead becomes swollen and inflamed.

Cystic acne

Cystic acne is an infection at the site of the outbreak. Cystic acne can be genetic, form in groups and is often very painful. This sort of acne can result in permanent scarring.

Treatments

Mild to Moderate

Comedonal acne generally occurs in teenagers and young adults. Most cases of comedonal acne is mild and can be treated with the use of creams and gels. Active ingredients in the topical treatments work by unblocking clogged pores.

For moderate comedonal or inflammatory acne an oral antibiotic can be prescribed in addition to a topic cream which kills the bacteria that cause inflammation around the blocked pores.

Severe
