CoolSculpting 101

Many people struggle with stubborn fat bulges, but don’t want to undergo a liposuction procedure for fear of incision and recovery time. That’s why at Body Sculpting Regina, we use CoolSculpting – an FDA cleared, non-invasive fat reduction treatment.

Read on to learn everything you need to know about this advanced procedure.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat-reduction treatment. In other words, there is no surgery, no anesthesia and no needles involved in the Procedure. Instead, our doctors use controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat.

Often, surgery can involve medication injections, scarring, and can result in serious complications—even death in rare circumstances. CoolSculpting is a way to achieve the same results as other fat-reduction surgeries, without any of the risk.

Cryolipolysis, the science behind the CoolSculpting procedure, was first revealed when two Harvard University scientists—Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD—discovered that many children who ate popsicles had cheek dimples. Eventually, they realized that these dimples were a result of popsicles freezing and removing fat cells from children’s cheeks.

How does CoolSculpting Work?

The CoolSculpting procedure is safe, precise and effective. Your doctor will apply controlled cooling to your requested areas, which will gently target only the fat cells underneath the skin. These cells are crystalized—frozen—and then eventually die.

Rapid weight loss surgeries can leave patients with unsightly access skin, which is typically removed with more surgery (in the form of a tummy tuck). With CoolSculpting, your body will begin to naturally process the fat and rid of the dead cells over time (typically between 1-3 months after the procedure), leaving you with a sculpted version of yourself.

Since the procedure is non-invasive, there is no recovery time post-CoolSculpting. Once the procedure is finished, you’ll be able to carry on with your regular routines. Feel free to visit our before and after photos to check our patients results.

What is the CoolSculpting procedure?

Generally, your CoolSculpting procedure will work like this:

Step one: book your consultation

First, you’ll meet with a specialized clinician for a one-on-one consultation. The two of you will discuss your goals, and then look at your body from all angles in order to choose which areas will be targeted.

Step two: develop your treatment plan

Everyone’s body is different, which means every treatment plan will be different as well. Your Doctor will work with you to figure out which areas need to be treated, and how many treatments it will take.

Step three: treatment day

A gel pad and applicator will be applied to your targeted areas, which will deliver controlled cooling to the fat cells. As the treatment is non-invasive, as soon as it’s complete, you’ll be back to your daily routines. CoolSculpting is a great alternative for those who wish to reduce fat without undergoing surgery. At our school, we believe the days of going “under the knife” are over, and teach our students alternatives to many surgical procedures, including CoolSculpting!
