Eat antioxidants

Antioxidants contained in fruits, vegetables, and meat are great for anti-aging. Dermatologist Marnie Nussbaum, MD, chief medical spokesperson for Sebamed, says that antioxidants help protect skin against free radicals in the environment by preventing free radicals from breaking down the skin’s elastin and collagen, resulting in more youthful, healthier skin. If you want to get more vitamins B and E, try to increase the amounts of fruits, vegetables, wheat germ oil, and nuts like almonds in your diet. If you want to obtain more vitamins B6 and B12, fill your plate with fish, poultry, and chickpeas. These are all terrific sources of vitamins that can help you look younger and protect you from aging signs.

Fill up on healthy fats

Don’t be panic when you see the word “fats”. Not all fats are bad. In fact, some fats are called “healthy fats” and they are great for anti-aging. Fats contained in the foods like avocados, eggs, fatty fish, and olive oil can promote smoother, younger-looking skin by reducing inflammatory skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis. Therefore, you should try to consume the healthy fats within an appropriate amount everyday and your skin will reap the benefits of them.  

Cut back on salt

Do you sometimes feel heavy and bloated and have a puffier appearance when you wake up in the morning? Well, that is probably because you consumed too much sodium at dinner last night. In order to balance out the sodium in your body, your body will hold onto extra fluid in an attempt to dilute the excess sodium, which causes your face to look puffier than usual. Moreover, too much sodium can also increase your blood pressure, causing kidney disease, strokes, and heart disease. Therefore, try to avoid foods that are high in sodium such as pizzas, bacon, and pickles. If you can’t, then at least do not eat them for the supper.

Manage your stress

Stress affects more than just our mental health. Managing our stress well can help you slow down the aging process. In a 2013 Dutch study, researchers found that the cells of people who had depression aged more quickly than those who hadn’t suffered from the disease. “[P]sychological distress … has a large, detrimental impact on the wear and tear of a person’s body, resulting in accelerated biological aging,” said one of the study authors Josine Verhoeven, a researcher at the Free University in Amsterdam. Thus, when you feel stressed, try to manage your emotion by getting more sleep, doing exercise, or meditating. These methods can not only improve your mental health but also help you look younger!
