For some, the culture and habits that we follow can be a bit difficult to understand and follow, but most of the people actually likes our desi habits and they take them in their countries, long after their trip to the country has ended. Several users and blog wriers on Quora, who have travelled to India, have written wonderful anecdotes to answer the question – ‘what habits did you learn in India that have stuck?’

Askiguru has discovered 7 Desi Habits Foreigners Picked Up From India and Loved It:

1.Cooling Tea In a Saucer!

In India, majority of the people love chai. Chai is more than just a cup of tea to start the day – thick sweet drink is an integral part of life's rhythm.

A fashionable way of drinking chai (or coffee) in India is by serving it in a cup on a saucer. The hot tea is then poured into the saucer by the drinker and slurped down. When we have saucers then, why to waste our time staring at that tempting tea and waiting endlessly for it to cool down?

2.Using Your Hands To Dig Into That Sumptuous Meal

In India, there is an old saying, "Eating food with your hands does not only feed the body but also the mind and the soul". Most tourists coming to India are astonished by this superior Indian custom. However, on trying it themselves, they also agree that using hands while eating results in a cleaner plate and happier stomach.

3.Removing Shoes Off Before Entering Someone’s House

Prior to entering the house, the custom of removing your shoes is widely practiced in Indian homes. Foreigners, who have experienced this tradition in India, often liked it and end up taking it to their countries.

4.Using Toilets The ‘Indian Way’

Since the first person has landed on earth, squatting has been the most natural posture to finish one’s daily “business”. Indian toilets, in which are required to squat and use water (instead of toilet paper),  have long been considered healthier than western commodes. Foreigners have often admitted that although they first found it strange and gross, but they have learned to love it over time. Many of them have also said that this is a better way of keeping themselves clean and fresh.

5.Wearing Bright Colors

India has long been related to with colour thanks to its festivals, costumes and food. The love of color spreads to everyday life as well with people donning garments of every conceivable colour. Many foreigners, who normally hesitate in wearing bright colors back home, have accepted that they feel more confident and comfortable wearing brighter colors after a visit to India.

6.Jugaad. Because India’s Got Talent!

Jugaad is a conversational Indian phrase used to describe such cleverness which enables Indians to manage the big and small challenges of everyday life. The essence of Jugaad is to improve, and to add a solution quickly and cheaply with the materials you have. By cutting costs at every turn to use the old resources for new utility, many foreigners have taken inspiration from the concept of Jugaad to get things done in their own life.

7.Words Like Aiyo! And Accha?

A versatile word which you will often hear and used in various ways in India, ‘achha’ takes on a number of meanings, depending on the situation it’s given and where it’s positioned in a sentence. As for ‘Aiyo!’, according to the Oxford English dictionary, it is now also an English phrase!
