Generally speaking, people juice for one of three reasons; to bump up their intake of nutrients, to cleanse or detox their Body or to lose weight. how does juicing, rather than simply eating lots of fruit and vegetabes, work ?
Proponents of the juice cleanse – drinking juice, water and nothing else- claim that it will rid your body of toxins and deliver a host of nutrients to your body in their most ready digestible form. Thier theory is that the juicing process predigests the food for you, giving your gut a rest and allowing your body to preserve energy that it would normally use during the digestive process.
However, there are those that refute these claims. There are concerns that juicing diminishes the amount of nutrients and fails to provide healthy levels of fibre, protein and the right fats. It is argued that the whole notion of ‘detoxing’ is redundant, as the body has its own systems in place to do exactly that. They warn also about the dangers of cutting down calories to the point that your metabolism slows, or the weight piles straight back on when you start eating normally again.
