2020 Excellence in Education Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to our 2020 scholarship winners! This year, we expanded our scholarships to THREE instead of one! We are thrilled to recognize these three incredible young women who plan to serve in the medical field.

You will meet two here today, Lily Zavala and Emily Powers, both from Skagit County. We will introduce the third, Sophie Riley from Anacortes, soon. Sadly, due to COVID, she is temporarily unavailable.

Lily plans to attend the University of Washington this fall and major in public health with a minor in Spanish and diversity. Because of health issues that had her hospitalized many times, she dreams of becoming a pediatric surgeon. She loves working with kids and is excited to give back, using her valued skills to serve her supportive community and family.

Emily will be attending Eastern Washington University virtual classes, majoring in the Children’s Studies, the only program like it in the nation. She will learn to serve as a Child Life Specialist at a local hospital, helping hospital-ridden children and their families find coping strategies and a better understanding of their situation through education, communication, and play.

We couldn’t be more proud to support these young women and their outstanding academic and life goals. It is a pleasure to play a little part and we look forward to following along as they develop their knowledge and continue to grow.

Thank you so much to all our applicants. We wish you all success and happiness in your bright futures!
