Space Tourism: A Trip To The International Space Station Would Cost You $55 Million

Space Tourism is developing faster than expected. Axiom Space, a company based in Houston, USA, it’s organizing trips to the International Space Station and is planning on constructing the first commercial space station in the history. But, a flight to the ISS is not for every individual because it would cost you $55 million for a 10-day journey in the outer space.

According to the company’s spokesmen, Axiom Space is planning on booking its first flights in 2020.

“It is an honor to continue the work that NASA and its partners have begun, to bring awareness to the profound benefits of human space exploration and to involve more countries and private citizens in these endeavors,” affirmed Michael Suffredini, the CEO and President of Axiom Space.

Michael Suffredini has also directed the ISS program of NASA for about ten years.

Axiom Space wants to take space tourism to the next level and works on building its own commercial space station

The Axiom $100 billion commercial space station, which is scheduled for launch in 2022, will link to the International Space Station, in its initial phase. However, when it is ready to detach from the ISS, the Axiom station will fly independent around the Earth.

But it is not known when this commercial station will be able to fly freely. However, it is supposed to make this breakthrough before 2024 when the ISS funding might be halted.

The Axiom station’s interiors will be more pleasant than the utilitarian aspect of the ISS, for instance, and to achieve that, Axiom Space is collaborating with Philippe Starck, a renowned French architect.

“This is a dream project for a creator like me with a genuine fascination for aviation and space exploration (…) My vision for the habitation module on Axiom Station is to create a comfortable egg that is inviting, with soft walls and design perfectly in harmony with the values and movements of the human body in zero gravity,” stated Starck.

In conclusion, Axiom Space is very committed to space tourism and plans on launching a commercial space station. In the meantime, starting with 2020, the company will offer journeys to the ISS. According to the company’s spokesmen, a trip to the International Space Station would cost $55 million.
