The organizations featured on this list offer benefits and opportunities for employees to build successful careers above and beyond the average healthcare provider or company; they encourage professional development and promote leadership from within. Many members of the list offer unique wellness and personal benefits to ensure employees strike a positive work/life balance.

Advocate Aurora Health (Downers Grove, Ill., and Milwaukee) Advocate Aurora recognizes that providing top-notch healthcare starts with attracting, retaining, and growing a top-notch team. The health system creates an inclusive environment with Culture of Inclusion Committees, which are employee-led groups tasked with bringing the larger health system strategy, mission and values into day-to-day work. Advocate Aurora is also looking ahead to develop and grow its future workforce. Through a partnership with JPMorgan Chase, Advocate Aurora has an initiative in place to match job seekers with high-growth, middle-skill healthcare jobs, improve diversity, advance its current workforce and support economic development in the communities it serves. The Chicago Tribune and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel named Advocate Aurora among the Top Work Places in 2018.

Atlantic Health System (Morristown, N.J.). Atlantic Health System’s work environment has earned it an 11-year streak on Fortune‘s 100 Best Companies to Work For list and a four-year streak on Fortune’s 100 Best Workplaces for Women list, in addition to earning recognition as a Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. But beyond the accolades, AHS employees speak for themselves: the health system boasts a 91 percent employee retention rate. AHS believes its key to success is engagement and trust, which the health system fosters through team building, recognition and competitive benefits that include on-site child care, financial incentives for healthy living, tuition reimbursement and career coaching.

Atrium Health (Charlotte, N.C.). Atrium Health works to instill “One Experience” in every patient and employee encounter by fostering a culture of caring, commitment, integrity and teamwork. As part of this mission, Atrium Health is committed to creating a diverse workforce, which it works toward with the help of several councils and committees focused on recruiting, retaining, engaging and fostering a more inclusive workforce. Banner Health (Phoenix). Banner Health empowers employees to carry out its mission of “Making healthcare easier, so life can be better,” by helping them find a connection between their personal purpose and the organization’s purpose. Its employee engagement approach and benefits package similarly focus on the whole person. Banner offers well-being programs in four areas: health, growth, balance, and wealth. Among more traditional benefits, it notably offers both physical health and mindfulness programs, as well as full benefits to any employee working over 16 hours per week, with no part-time penalty. Banner has put professional development programs into place at all levels, and worked to promote diversity within the organization. In the past four years, Banner Health has improved racial diversity at the employee level by 9 percent, at the manager level by 6 percent and at the senior leader level by 5 percent.

Baptist Health Care (Pensacola, Fla.). Baptist Health Care has experienced huge growth since it started as a single hospital in 1951 and continues to evolve to meet the needs of its growing community and workforce. The system offers competitive benefits alongside some more unusual ones, like an onsite car wash and detailing service, financial wellness classes, a free fitness center, and fitness classes, and a summer camp for team member’s children. Baptist team members can also donate to a “Helping Hands Fund,” to support team members going through financial hardship. As part of its work to continuously evolve and improve, Baptist implemented an employee engagement survey in 2018 and provides leadership monthly retention data, so they can make better decisions for the team on a daily basis.

Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Plano (Texas). Baylor Scott & White’s cardiovascular hospital aims to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and collective spirit of service. It does this by offering its employees benefits and career development opportunities that position everyone to succeed. Unusual offerings include Roth IRA options on top of a 401K, no deductible health plans and tuition reimbursement and scholarships. It also brings this ethos to its interactions within the community. For example, The Heart Hospital focuses strategically on supporting minority and women-owned businesses and participates in a communitywide athletic competition that benefits Special Olympics of Texas.

BayCare Health System (Clearwater, Fla.). BayCare Health System aims to create a forward-thinking work environment for its 26,600 team members. It offers a comprehensive benefits plan, including Roth options and a 401K match and contribution, whether or not employees contribute. BayCare also encourages growth and development, either in its leadership track or group track for those earlier in their career path. BayCare was named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune in 2018 and 2019, and it was named a Top Work Place by Tampa Bay Times in 2018.

Beaumont Health (Southfield, Mich.). Beaumont Health offers its team of 35,000 employees a comprehensive benefits package that includes retirement benefits, life and disability insurance, health and wellness offerings and additional services like pet insurance, identity theft insurance and employee discounts. Beaumont is also invested in the professional growth of its workforce. For nurses, Beaumont offers tuition reimbursement and growth opportunities. For future administrative leaders, it offers a two-year post-graduate administrative fellowship to develop the skills needed to oversee operations and strategic planning for a large health system.

Benefis Health System (Great Falls, Mont.). Benefis works to create a sense of family among its 3,400 employees and the community it serves. It has done this by lobbying state legislature on behalf of its employees and community to expand Medicaid and keep air ambulance bills down. It expanded health insurance offerings in 2019 to ensure every employee had access to an affordable care plan, covers 82 percent of premiums and has a program in place on top of that to ensure no employee’s health insurance premiums exceed 9.5 percent of household income. Beyond physical health, Benefis works to create an inclusive environment for staff and patients. It conducts systemwide cultural sensitivity trainings to ensure employees can provide compassionate care to its diverse patient population, which includes several Native American tribes and Hutterite colonies. Its team members also lift one another up: employees donated 3,391 hours of PTO to other coworkers and more than $80,000 to assist team members during financial emergencies.

Bon Secours Mercy Health (Cincinnati). The newly merged Bon Secours Health System and Mercy Health is powered by a team of 57,500 employees. The faith-based organizations, which came together in 2018, are both known for cultivating top-notch work environments. Bon Secours earned recognition as a Great Workplace from the Gallup Organization six times in a row, has been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as a leader in LGBTQ Health Equality three times and was recognized by Working Mother magazine as a top company for multicultural women. Mercy Health is similarly committed to diversity and inclusion and has implemented focus on supporting minority and women-owned business vendors.

Boston Medical Center. As the largest safety net hospital in New England, Boston Medical Center has unique benefits to attract team members. The hospital passes on pharmacy benefits to employees, such as 60 to 70 percent lower pharmaceutical co-payments. The hospital also supports work-life balance among staff with programs that offer back-up childcare and educational strategies for improving financial standing. BMC’s time off policy begins at 33 days a year. The hospital also features a rooftop farm, where employees can volunteer and take part in sourcing produce that will be used in patient meals. BMC is on pace to be the first carbon-neutral hospital in New England within the next year.

Brigham Health (Boston). Brigham Health comprises Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organizations. The health system’s commitment to professional development and work-life balance is evidenced by its low employee turnover rates — nurses at Brigham and Women’s Hospital stay with the organization for an average of 15 years. Brigham Health also provides generous tuition reimbursement for both full-time and part-time benefits-eligible employees. The health system also has a paid time-off program, starting at 29 paid days off every year.

Campbell County Health (Gillette, Wyo.). Campbell County Health serves the people of northeastern Wyoming across 20 specialty clinics, a long-term care facility, an ASC and a 90-bed acute care hospital. Committed to employee development and continuing education, CCH offers tuition reimbursement and carries an annual budget of $116,700 for on-site employee education programs and a $248,600 budget to support off-site educational opportunities. In 2015, the Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues awarded Campbell County Health the Wyoming Employer of Choice Award. CCH earned the recognition because of its commitment to family-friendly practices that support women and children in Wyoming.

Carilion Clinic (Roanoke, Va.). With a staff of more than 13,000 employees, including more than 700 physicians, Carilion Clinic serves a community of about 1 million people across 225 practice sites in western Virginia. Carilion Clinic offers tuition assistance and provides a range of opportunities for continuing education and professional development through its affiliations with two Roanoke-based institutes of higher learning — Jefferson College of Health Sciences and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute. In 2018, The National Center for Healthcare Leadership named Carilion Clinic among the Top 10 Best Organizations for Leadership Development.

Central Florida Health (Leesburg). This 636-bed health system delivers care to residents in three Florida counties — Lake, Sumter and Marion. The system comprises urgent care locations, labs, two acute care hospitals and one rehabilitation hospital. Committed to employee health and well-being, CFH offers staff a unique set of healthcare and wellness benefits, including 100 percent insurance coverage for staff and dependents across all the system’s urgent care centers, and access to a 10,000-square-foot fitness facility. CFH also offers a generous tuition reimbursement program, covering 90 percent reimbursement for books or tuition if employee obtains a passing grade of “C” or better.

Children’s Health (Dallas). Children’s Health has delivered pediatric care to families in north Texas for more than a century. The system is regularly recognized for workplace excellence. For the past three years, WorldatWork honored Children’s Health for its leadership practices and in 2018, the National Center for Healthcare Leadership awarded the system its biennial Best Organizations for Leadership Development Award. Through its two medical plans, Children’s Health pays an average 79 percent for employee health insurance premiums. The system recently enhanced its employee benefits package for 2019 to include adoption benefits of up to $3,000 per child for up to two children.

Cleveland Clinic. Cleveland Clinic is a large regional health system with locations in Ohio, Florida and Abu Dhabi. The system fosters a culture of excellence and inclusivity through an integrated, future-focused care-model and continuous investment in innovation and human capital. The system is regularly recognized for workforce management excellence. In 2017, Fortune named Cleveland Clinic No. 17 on its list of Best Workplaces in Health Care. In 2018, the National Center for Healthcare Leadership awarded the system its biennial Best Organizations for Leadership Development Award.

CommonSpirit Health (Chicago). In early 2019, Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health merged to form one of the nation’s largest health systems, CommonSpirit Health. The system operates across more than 700 sites of care in 21 states. CommonSpirit supports continuing education among staff with a generous tuition reimbursement package — in 2016, CHI alone spent $5.4 million on tuition reimbursement for more than 1,500 employees. The health system also offers employees and family members access to a wellness program that features webinars and lifestyle coaching. As a result of the merger, CommonSpirit clinicians are poised to deliver more than $4 billion in charity care every year.

Community Hospital Corp. (Plano, Texas). Founded in 1996, Community Hospital Corp. is a nonprofit company that owns, manages and consults with hospitals nationwide for the purpose of improving care delivery and financial standing at community hospitals. The organization offers both hospital-based and corporate employment opportunities and prioritizes employee health and wellness by offering discounts on medical premiums and reimbursement for gym memberships. In 2015 and 2016, The Dallas Morning News named CHC to its Top 100 Places to Work list.

Covenant Health (Knoxville, Tenn.). Covenant Health is equipped with a staff of more than 10,000 people and delivers care to Tennesseans across nine acute care hospitals in the eastern part of the state. The health system offers a comprehensive medical benefits package under which employees pay no deductible when they receive care at a Covenant facility. The system also offers employees and their families a free assistance program that includes support for stress management, work-life balance, child rearing, caregiving and career planning. In 2018, Forbes named Covenant Health one of the top 50 employers for women in the nation.

Eskenazi Health (Indianapolis). With a team of more than 4,000 staff members and 1,000 physicians, Eskenazi Health is one of Indianapolis’ largest employers. Ten of the health system’s 20 senior leaders are women, guiding a workforce in which 42 percent of employees represent minority populations. In 2018, an engagement survey was completed by 84 percent of Eskenazi employees — compared to the 60 percent national average — and demonstrated improvement over the 2015 survey for each question. Based on the results of an independent survey, Eskenazi was named among America’s Best Mid-Size Employers in 2018 by Forbes magazine.

Geisinger (Danville, Pa.). Geisinger invests in its 32,000 employees’ professional growth through a number of Employee Resource Groups — including Women LEAD, Black Outreach and Vet Net — which provide networking, leadership and mentoring opportunities. The physician-led system also supports its employees’ growing families with benefits including fertility treatment coverage, $5,000 reimbursement for adoption expenses and a variety of childbirth education classes. With about 1,800 employed physicians, Geisinger devotes nearly $1.2 billion toward local salaries, benefits, training and education each year.

Great Plains Health (North Platte, Neb.). To recruit and retain talent for its workforce of about 1,100 employees, Great Plains Health provides housing assistance and incentives for individuals purchasing homes in the community. In 2019, Great Plains Health expanded its Emerging Leaders Program — a two-year program that prepares high-performing employees to take on positions of increasing responsibility within the organization — to encompass a leadership boot camp. The system’s annual employee survey revealed 93 percent of staff members feel engaged at their jobs, and 90 percent feel engaged with the organization as a whole.

Gundersen Health System (La Crosse, Wis.). In 2017, Gundersen Health System incorporated the aim to “enrich the lives of patients, families and staff” into its vision statement and began working to implement a people strategy based on intrinsic motivation. In 2018, Gundersen reported physician and mid-level staff engagement at the 93rd percentile as well as an 89.11 percent retention rate. With a Great Place to Work certification, Gundersen encourages employees’ professional development through the Gundersen University program and devoted nearly $1 million to its tuition investment program last year.

Hackensack Meridian Health (Edison, N.J.). Hackensack Meridian Health is a 17-hospital health system with more than 500 patient care locations throughout the state which include ambulatory care centers, surgery centers, home health services, long-term care and assisted living communities, ambulance services, lifesaving air medical transportation, fitness and wellness centers, rehabilitation centers, urgent care centers and physician practice locations. The system employs more than 34,000 team members and more than 6,500 physicians, and 17 percent of its workforce has celebrated 20-plus years with the organization. The health system values collaborate teamwork and creative innovation to improve care delivery. It also offers free courses and workshops for professional development. Hackensack was certified as a Great Place to Work in December 2018. The health system is a six-time recipient of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For designation.

HonorHealth (Scottsdale, Ariz.). HonorHealth’s 3,400 physicians and 11,600 dedicated employees have access to unique benefits, such as a Commuter Connection Program that offers unlimited rides to and from work for $5 per pay period. The organization also offers employees discounts on sporting events, travel, restaurants and other services through a partnership with BenefitHub. Forbes named HonorHealth a top 100 employer for two years a row.

Hospital for Special Surgery (New York City). Hospital for Special Surgery employs 333 active medical staff members, and more than 4,175 full-time equivalents. The health system gives FTEs the opportunity to take up to 40 hours of paid time off for community service per year — a benefit that’s also extended to part-time employees on a prorated basis. Hospital for Special Surgery is a two-time winner of the Gallup Great Workplace Award and one of eight institutions named a 2018-19 Employer of Excellence by the American Academy of PAs’ Center for Healthcare Leadership and Management.

Inspira Health (Mullica Hill, N.J.). With a wellness program that offers lower health plan contributions to employees who achieve certain biometric goals, Inspira Health was named a platinum-level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association in 2016, for the 10th consecutive year. The health system also offers on-campus fitness centers and mindfulness meditation classes during and after work to promote employees’ mental and physical well-being. In 2018, Inspira’s overall turnover rate and nurse turnover rate beat the Advisory Board’s averages of 13.8 percent and 11.9 percent, respectively.

Intermountain Healthcare (Salt Lake City). Intermountain Healthcare offers its roughly 37,000 employees a comprehensive benefits package that constitutes more than 30 percent of each employee’s total compensation. To encourage professional growth, the 23-hospital system provides clinical, self-help, leadership and communication training, as well as up to $2,000 per year for employees’ education expenses. Intermountain was one of 35 companies selected to earn The Gallup Organization’s Great Workplace Award in 2016, for the fifth time since 2011. The same year, Intermountain was also named to Forbes‘ list of America’s Best Employers and Computerworld‘s 100 Best Places to Work in IT.

Jefferson Health (Philadelphia). Jefferson Health’s payroll comprises about 8,960 employees, 2,580 physicians and practitioners, and 3,300 full and part-time nurses. Along with providing corporate discounts on items such as computers and jewelry, the health system has partnered with several major cell service providers to make monthly phone plan discounts available to employees. Jefferson Health also offers tuition assistance for both full- and part-time staff members. In 2018, Jefferson Health’s Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia earned the highest possible scores for the employment non-discrimination and LGBTQ staff training categories on the Healthcare Equality Index.

Kaiser Permanente (Oakland, Calif.). Kaiser Permanente has made innovation and leadership a top priority for the organization. For nine years, Computerworld has named the system a best place to work in IT, and National Business Group on Health has named it a best employer for healthy lifestyles. Kaiser Permanente was ranked by Glassdoor as the No. 13 best healthcare company to work for in 2019. DiversityInc named the health system to its Top 50 2018 Companies to Work For, honoring its consistent exceptional management and corporate values. Forbes also named the system a best employer for women, and it is a Top 100 military-friendly employer. Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente serves over 12.2 million patients annually in eight states and the District of Columbia.

Kootenai Health (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho). Kootenai Health was named a Gallup great workplace in 2017 and 2018, and the system has also twice received the Wellness Councils of America’s Gold National Well Workplace designation due to its quality and excellence in work site health promotion. All Kootenai employees have access to free professional development courses online and on its main campus. Every year the system hosts an organizationwide Kootenai Health Way Training to educate employees on their three core commitments: safety, compassion and engagement.

Legacy Health (Portland, Ore.). Legacy health is a six-hospital health system that builds its culture on diversity throughout the organization. It offers a competitive career development program, investing in employees for the future. Legacy Health has an administrative fellowship and the Health Occupation Professional Education program, which gives experience to underserved students of color through paid summer internships. Employees also have access to tuition reimbursement at approved colleagues and universities. The system also provides discounted fitness memberships, transportation and child care services.

Lehigh Valley Health Network (Allentown, Pa.). Lehigh Valley Health Network was recognized as one of the top workplaces in Lehigh Valley in 2019 by the Morning Call newspaper. Eligible employees can use the system’s Live Near Your Work program to receive a $10,000 grant to help with buying a house in the area, and the system’s Colleague Relief Fund provides financial help to employees who have experienced a hardship. Lehigh Valley Health Network also strongly encourages professional and personal development through programs such as the Management Leadership Academy, Talent Talk sessions with senior leadership and other offerings from its Leadership and Organizational Development department.

Loma Linda (Calif.) University Health. Loma Linda University Health has over 16,000 employees at six hospitals, eight schools and several clinics. The system’s biannual Week of Renewal offers inspirational programs and celebrations to help employees rest and rejuvenate, while the Living Whole program supports employees who lead a healthy lifestyle. The Management Residency and Business Internship program is a two-year program creating a pipeline of service-minded leaders by training residents and interns in multiple rotations through business departments and an optional international rotation. The program includes a fully paid master’s degree, and the health system also offers tuition reimbursement of up to $6,520.

Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). Massachusetts General Hospital offers employees resources for child care, emergency backup child care and a Dinners To Go program that gives busy employees nutritious meal options. The campus has a pharmacy, post office, baking terminals and hair salon. The Human Resources Department gives employees the chance to take a number of free training courses that improve skills, such as project management and business writing, and the Leadership Academy provides continuing education and training for organizational managers. It was named a Glassdoor employees’ choice best places to work in 2019 and a top place to work by the Boston Globe in 2017.

Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.). Mayo Clinic’s Gonda and Rochester campuses have 2,490 physicians and scientists as well as 31,790 allied health staff. In 2018, DiversityInc named Mayo among its top 11 hospitals and health systems for the seventh consecutive year, and global branding firm Universum named it among the most attractive employers for the 13th year in a row. Mayo supports employee resource groups, which include groups for employees with disabilities, those with Arab or Caribbean heritage, LGBTQ employees and the Greater Leadership Opportunities for Women group, among others. The health system offers employee child and elder care benefits through an employee assistance program.

McAlester (Okla.) Regional Health Center. McAlester Regional Health Center provides training throughout the year to promote job-related growth and increase competencies. The 171-bed hospital also offers a nurse scholarship program to ensure a higher level of education and knowledge for its nursing staff. The hospital also provides tuition assistance, a wellness center membership discount and LegalShield, allowing access to an attorney about any personal legal matter.

MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston). MD Anderson employs around 20,000 people, including 1,600 faculty members who work in the health system’s 25 buildings in Houston and Central Texas. The hospital was named a Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Best Place to Work in 2019, a Forbes Best Large Employer of 2018 and one of the Best Employers for Diversity, as well as one of the Best Employers for Vets in 2018 by the Military Times. The hospital offers employee networks for women, military veterans, disabled employees and those who are LGBTQ. The health system offers backup dependent care, fitness center memberships and nutrition courses.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York City). Memorial Sloan Kettering is a large private cancer center. Now one of 50 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering supported 23,506 inpatient stays and 722,238 outpatient visits in 2017. U.S. News & World Report has consistently named the hospital as one of the top options for cancer care for more than 25 years. The hospital provides an array of benefits including tuition assistance and reimbursement as well as several work-life balance resources. Memorial Sloan Kettering also encourages workplace diversity and established the Office of Diversity Programs in Clinical Care, Research, and Training in 2005 to address disparities in cancer outcomes.

Mount Sinai Health System (New York City). Mount Sinai Health System has over 42,000 employees at seven hospital campuses and the Icahn School of Medicine. The health system champions a diverse workforce with its Office for Diversity and Inclusion, which spearheads initiatives, including employee resource groups, site diversity councils and advocacy for women. Through the Mount Sinai recreation office, employees can obtain discounts to shows, concerts and sporting events. The system also gives employees access to health and wellness programs and supports continued education through its talent development and learning division.

MU Health Care (Columbia, Mo.). MU Health Care offers its employees incentives like student loan repayment, retention and referral awards as well as a tuition assistance program for both employees and their dependents. In 2015, the health system launched The MU Health Care Career Institute to provide employees and select community members training as certified medical assistants and neurodiagnostic technicians; the program has since grown to include training in other areas and an apprenticeship program in engineering. MU Health Care increased its employee engagement by 51 percent over the last four years.

MUSC Health (Charleston, S.C.). MUSC Health is a top place to work featuring 13,000 clinicians, faculty members, employees and students. Recognized by Forbes, MUSC Health was included on its list of America’s 2018 Best Employers for Diversity, ranked No. 53 out of 250 organizations. The health system is also committed to supporting diversity in Charleston, spending some $52 million at small, women- and minority-owned businesses and another $13 million at African-American owned businesses during its construction projects. MUSC Health promotes diversity among its workforce as well. All new faculty, staff and students participate in diversity training and the health system’s entire leadership department completed at least four hours of diversity and inclusion training.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, Ohio). Nationwide Children’s Hospital sees 1.4 million patients annually and is a top 10 National Institutes of Health-funded institution for research. The impact of Nationwide Children’s goes beyond its four walls and into the community, where its Healthy Neighborhoods Healthy Families programs has impacted more than 300 nearby houses, lowering vacancy rates. Nationwide Children’s also touts employee benefits including a 24-hour on-site fitness center, staffed by a personal trainer for 20 hours a week. Nationwide also offers professional development through its tuition reimbursement, college savings program and on-site training programs.

Nemours Children’s Health System (Jacksonville, Fla.). Nemours Children’s has an array of benefits for its associates. Nemours is an accredited provider of continuing medical education and offers its employees tuition reimbursement, benefiting more than 1,050 Nemours employees. Workforce Magazine recognized Nemours with its 2018 Optimas Award in the managing change category.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center (Wilmington, N.C.). New Hanover Regional Medical Center supports its almost 7,000 employees with personal as well as family-based benefits. The medical center offers tuition assistance as well as access to an employee fitness center and health clinic. In 2018, Forbes honored the hospital among America’s Best Large Employers.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (New York City). NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital supports more than 35,000 employees professionally and personally with the core belief that every person and every role counts. It provides tuition reimbursement for professional development, investing more than $8 million annually in employee education. The hospital ranked No. 5 on Glassdoor’s 13 Best Healthcare Companies to Work For in 2019 list and earned a spot among Forbes‘ best large employers in 2018. The Human Rights Campaign named NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital an LGBTQ healthcare equality leader in 2017, and the organization launched a series of seminars, “Dialogues in Diversity,” to raise awareness of unconscious bias and encourage respect among all employees. To support employees’ physical and emotional health, the hospital offers health coaches on-site, free yoga classes and other programs.

Nicklaus Children’s Health System (Miami). Nicklaus Children’s Health System is named a top diversity employer by the National Diversity Institute, and about 80 percent of its workforce is of diverse origin, many of them from Latin America, Asia and Europe. Employees are offered a total rewards package that includes a weekly main hospital farmers market and on-site dry cleaning and car wash services. The health system also offers discounts on car rentals, travel, entertainment, mobile phone services and fitness center memberships. It promotes from within through the Leadership Institute, which provides coaching and training for the next generation of leaders.

Northside Hospital (Atlanta). Leaders at Northside Hospital believe in creating an environment that empowers employees to deliver quality healthcare. The organization earned recognition from the website Comparably in 2018 for best company culture and best company for women. Northside Hospital’s network has more than 16,000 employees handling 3 million patient visits annually. Professional development is a focus for the organization, with tuition reimbursement and the Northside Employee Leadership Council recognizing employees for excellence. Employees are offered a discount transportation program, childcare assistance and various wellness programs. Northside Hospital ranked No. 4 on Glassdoor’s 13 Best Healthcare Companies to Work For in 2019 list and earned inclusion among the 2018 Best Places to Work list of the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Norton Healthcare (Louisville, Ky.). Norton Healthcare’s strong mission, vision and values guide the not-for-profit’s focus on ensuring a positive experience for patients, staff and the community. With a staff of 15,000 employees in more than 250 locations, the organization has over 3 million patient visits a year. Professional development is integral to Norton Healthcare’s continuing success. The Office of Workforce Development provides challenging and meaningful educational opportunities for all employees. Also, the Norton Healthcare Institute for Nursing and Norton University provide employees with additional organizational development and training opportunities. Employees also receive local and national discounts on products and services. In 2018, Forbes honored Norton Healthcare as No. 67 of 300 companies recognized nationwide as Best Employers for Women and as No. 95 of 500 large companies recognized on its America’s Best Employers list. The system is also No. 11 on the Computerworld Best Places to Work in IT list and the Healthiest Employers fourth healthiest place to work in the country.

Northwell Health (New Hyde Park, N.Y.). Northwell Health makes a promise to employees to be “by the people, for the people.” The organization supports its employees through unique benefits, wellness initiatives and professional development. Northwell has 132 wellness liaisons systemwide, and 90 percent of employees feel that the organization encourages a healthy lifestyle. The health system also aims to inspire the next generation of leaders with its annual leadership rallies, which engage employees and promote communication and collaboration for improved healthcare delivery. To take its mission a step further, Northwell offers a rewards program to outstanding individuals and teams. Northwell also is committed to promoting diversity through its Emerging Leaders Diversity & Improvement Council.

Northwestern Medicine (Chicago). Northwestern Medicine has 30,000 employees and 4,000 practicing physicians. The system offers employees physician well-being programs and services, such as massage therapy and group exercise classes. It also offers programs and services related to emotional well-being, including a mindfulness and meditation class. In 2017, the Human Rights Campaign named Northwestern Medicine a leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality; the health system also earned the Alliance for Work-Life Progress seal of distinction for leadership in workplace strategy and inclusion among the list of 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers by Working Mother magazine in 2015.

Novant Health (Winston Salem, N.C.). Novant Health has received multiple recognitions from the Charlotte Business Journal and Triad Business Journal for being a healthy place to work. The system supports diversity through its Project LIFT, Leveraging Internal Female Talent, which aims to ensure female employees have desired career opportunities at Novant Health and that their leadership talent is used by the organization. Last year, Novant increased its minimum wage, instituted programs to ease the transition for new nursing graduates and made scholarships available for certified nursing assistants who want to be licensed nurses.

OhioHealth (Columbus). OhioHealth is a nonprofit, faith-based health system serving patients in a 47-county region in Ohio. For 13 straight years, the organization has made Fortune’s list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. The health system supports diversity with robust diversity councils and business resource groups focused on women, LGBTQ and African-American employees. OhioHealth also has a Physician Diversity Scholars program to recruit and develop minority physicians within the system. OhioHealth’s nearly 27,000 employees are offered wellness resources, and a majority call the system a great place to work.

Orlando (Fla.) Health. Orlando Health has earned recognition as a Fortune 2018 Best Workplace for Diversity and Advisory Board 2018 Workplace of the Year and Workplace Transformation honoree. It promotes professional development through team member training and holds 20 diversity- and inclusion-focused sessions to connect team members of all backgrounds. The health system also sponsors the “Aspiring Leader” series for internal growth as well as an Emerging Leader program for both clinical and nonclinical leaders. In 2017, 60 percent of Emerging Leader participants were promoted to leadership roles in the system. Orlando Health offers an array of unique benefits to employees, including a holistic program, called Healthy U, that offers various wellness programs, products, plans and services focused on employee health and well-being.

OSF HealthCare (Peoria, Ill.). OSF HealthCare, an integrated health system owned and operated by the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, has nearly 21,000 employees at 126 locations, including 13 hospitals. The health system offers training and education to raise awareness of sensitivity to diversity issues and teaches the FAIR principle to reduce conflict among team members. As a mission-driven organization, OSF HealthCare preaches servant leadership at every level. In both 2018 and 2019, OSF HealthCare was named one of the nation’s best large employers by Forbes.

Parkview Health (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Parkview Health is a nine-hospital nonprofit health system that serves Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. It is the region’s largest employer with over 12,000 employees focused on providing excellence, innovation and value in care. Parkview Health offers employees the Parkview Excellence Plan for Co-workers, delivering bonuses twice a year based on financial performance and patients’ perception of care. Parkview Health was recognized by Forbes on its 2018 list of America’s Best Large Employers and was an Advisory Board 2017 Workplace of the Year Award winner.

PeaceHealth (Vancouver, Wash). PeaceHealth is a Catholic health system with 10 medical centers across three states with around 16,000 caregivers. Healthiest Employers/Springbuk recently recognized PeaceHealth as one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America. PeaceHealth’s employee wellness program provides caregivers with access to free activity trackers, an on-site fitness center, and health risk assessments and appraisals, among other benefits. In partnership with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, PeaceHealth sponsors its employees to become licensed health coaches.

Penn Medicine (Philadelphia). Penn Medicine is a six-hospital health system serving patients in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It strives for excellence in serving patients as well as employees; the health system offers home ownership services for employees who need to finance a home, as well as local discounts for fitness, entertainment and veterinary services. Penn Medicine also offers employees a robust wellness program dubbed Wellfocused, which includes free on-site nutrition counseling, an app and monthly fitness challenges. The health system is also focused on professional development and innovation in medicine, offering the training academies to ensure talented professionals have the right skills to fulfill needed roles within the system. In 2018, Forbes named Penn Medicine among America’s Best Large Employers and The Best Employers for Women.

Piedmont Healthcare (Atlanta). Piedmont Healthcare employs more than 22,000 people throughout the state of Georgia at 11 hospitals and more than 500 clinics. The health system offers up to eight free and confidential counseling sessions, backup child care, subsidized elderly care, adoption assistance, and tuition reimbursement, among other benefits. Piedmont’s executive-led Diversity Steering Committee embeds diversity into the work culture, and the health system’s learning and development team helps managers understand how to best support their staff to develop within the organization.

Pinehurst (N.C.) Medical Clinic. Pinehurst Medical Clinic offers primary and specialty care to patients across six counties in North Carolina. With 17 locations and 100 physicians, the organization prioritizes excellence and a team culture among care providers. Pinehurst Medical Clinic focuses on internal promotions, and over 70 percent of its supervisor positions over the past year were hires from within. PMC offers its employees free online continuing education units through its HealthStream learning management system, along with several on-site continuing education courses throughout the year.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Phoenix Children’s Hospital has a medical staff of nearly 1,000 specialists. The hospital has a robust employee wellness program that provides Apple Watches, an on-site farmers market and rewards employees with gift cards for achieving fitness goals. An employee survey administered by Phoenix Children’s Hospital found that the hospital was in the 90th percentile for employee satisfaction. Phoenix Children’s Hospital was awarded a platinum ranking by the 2018 Maricopa County Healthy Arizona Worksites program and was recognized by the Phoenix Business Journal as a 2018 recipient of the Valley’s Healthiest Employers Award.

ProMedica (Toledo, Ohio). ProMedica has nearly 56,000 employees across 28 states who support more than 1.5 million patient visits per year. ProMedica offers its employees discounts on hotels, amusement parks and sporting events through its ProMedica Fun Times program, as well as professional development classes. The health system also has an assistance program that provides employee counseling for personal and job-related concerns. In 2014, ProMedica was recognized by the American Heart Association as a Platinum Level Fit-Friendly Worksite.

Rush Health (Chicago). Rush Health has over 30 locations across the Chicago metropolitan area and a workforce that represents the diversity of the city. Rush offers its employees flexible spending accounts and tuition reimbursement for classes at Rush University and beyond, as well as healthcare discounts when seeing physicians at Rush facilities. Employees also have access to discounts for retailers and entertainment venues. Since 2010, Rush has been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as a Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality, indicating that the hospital treats LGBT patients and employees equally.

RWJBarnabas Health (West Orange, N.J.). RWJBarnabas Health consists of 11 hospitals, four urgent care centers, 21 specialty centers and a medical school. The health system offers employees student loan forgiveness, tuition reimbursement and a family-friendly paid time off program including up to six weeks of paid time off upon hire. It also focuses on professional development, with progressive continuing professional education opportunities as well as nursing scholarships and student loan forgiveness at several of its locations. RWJBarnabas was awarded the 2017 Healthcare Humanitarian Award by the American Conference on Diversity.

Saint Luke’s Health System (Kansas City, Mo.). Saint Luke’s Health System includes 16 hospitals in the Kansas City region. Saint Luke’s offers employees an extensive benefits program, including on-site childcare, tuition reimbursement and scholarships. Since 2014, eight Saint Luke’s hospitals have been recognized as Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign. The health system was also the winner of the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence and Pinnacle of Excellence awards in 2016.

Scripps (San Diego). Scripps clinicians treat over 700,000 patients per year across five hospitals and 30 outpatient centers. Scripps offers employees a leadership development program through its leadership academy, free on-site massage therapy, pet insurance, and a college savings plan. Scripps’ employee-focused training and educational programs have been recognized by Fortune magazine and The Advisory Board, among others.

Seattle Children’s Hospital. Clinicians at Seattle Children’s Hospital serve patients across four states: Alaska, Montana, Washington and Idaho. Seattle Children’s Hospital’s dedication to healthcare extends to its employees through its robust health coaching program and healthcare discount program. Seattle Children’s also helps its employees grow professionally through career development workshops. Seattle Children’s Hospital was recognized as a Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign and was among the 2018 Best Workplaces for Commuters.

Sentara Healthcare (Norfolk, Va.). Sentara Healthcare encompasses 12 acute care hospitals and over 300 sites of care. Sentara Healthcare offers tuition assistance for employees, as well as employee discounts and a professional development program through the Sentara Leadership Program that includes an administrative fellowship program for MBA and MHA candidates. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.). Since opening in 1962, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has increased the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from 20 percent to more than 80 percent. The nonprofit hospital is implementing a $7 billion, six-year growth strategy to expand clinical care, research and global outreach to support progress in pediatric cancer treatment. In 2017, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital granted more than $189,000 in tuition reimbursements. The hospital also created a diversity and inclusion committee in 2017 to address the changing needs of the health system’s patients and employees. The committee organizes events for employees, such as potluck luncheons, chef spotlights highlighting traditional cuisines and family photo boards.

Strong Memorial Hospital (Rochester, N.Y.). The 849-bed, academic teaching hospital is part of the University of Rochester Medical Center’s network, which employs more than 23,000 faculty and staff. At Strong Memorial Hospital, all clinicians hold faculty appointments at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and supervise residents. Strong Memorial Hospital fosters a learning environment focused on research, education, community and innovation. In addition to its total rewards employee health and wellness benefits, the medical center offers family care programs for employees, including child care, elder care, pet care and home care. The health system also supports employees looking to buy a home in Rochester through its university home ownership incentive program.

SwedishAmerican (Rockford, Ill.). A division of Madison, Wis.-based UW Health, SwedishAmerican has been serving patients for more than 100 years. The acute care hospital includes a cancer center as well as primary, immediate and multispecialty care clinics. In addition to its benefits package, SwedishAmerican provides on-site child care and on-site massages for its employees. The hospital also offers tuition reimbursement for employees enrolled at partnered academic institutions.

Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital. A 1,007-bed, private, nonprofit hospital, Tampa General Hospital has more than 8,000 employees. It offers a comprehensive benefits program as well as an on-site day care center and vacation time. Tampa General Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s platinum-level fit-friendly designation, which recognizes organizations that provide physical activity and nutrition support to promote staff wellness. The hospital’s more than 5,000-square-foot health and wellness center offers workout space, personal trainers and massage therapy and other amenities and services for all hospital employees. In 2018, Tampa General Hospital was recognized as one of Forbes‘ Best Places for Business and Careers.

Tenet Healthcare (Dallas, Texas). Tenet Healthcare has 65 hospitals, 475 outpatient centers and employs 110,000 people. The health system offers full-time workers a comprehensive benefits package as well as accident insurance, identity-theft protection, pet insurance and an employee stock purchase plan. In 2018, it launched events for its corporate office employees that included a family picnic and cereal box sculpture contest that benefited its annual Healthy over Hungry cereal drive. Each year, Tenet Healthcare holds a volunteer week that includes activities such as cleaning local parks and assisting at animal shelters. In 2019, the health system was recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies, and Tenet Healthcare’s Baptist Health System in San Antonio was named to Forbes magazine’s list of Best Employers for Diversity in 2018.

Texas Health Resources (Arlington). Texas Health Resources has more than 25,000 employees at 27 hospital locations, including 18 acute care, five short stay, three rehabilitation and one transitional care hospital. The nonprofit health system offers employees several health and wellness programs addressing such concerns as healthy pregnancy, weight management and tobacco cessation. It also offers time off for community service, on top of regular paid time off, so employees can volunteer with local nonprofit groups. In 2019, Fortune magazine named the health system to its list of 100 Best Companies to Work For, and Glassdoor recognized it as one of the Best Places to Work in 2018.

TriHealth (Cincinnati). Formed in 1995, TriHealth has five hospitals and six ambulatory centers in the Cincinnati area. The health system has more than 12,500 employees, and in 2018, it invested $80 million to improve its total rewards programs, which include benefits, compensation, career development and wellness. On top of medical, dental and vision insurance plans, TriHealth offers its employees discounted pharmacy services, retirement savings plans and employer-paid short-te
