How To Easily Set Achievable Goals In 2018

Do you know where you want to be in a years time? Can you see the end goal but have no idea how you are going to get there?

The key is to look at the big picture then break this up into smaller more manageable goals. I am going to tell you how this can be done in an easy and achievable way.

The Benefits Of Setting Goals

Setting goals gives you a Clear sense of direction. You know exactly where you want to go. Goals give you something to aim for. They will guide to towards your ultimate goals in life.

Goals give you hope and something to Achieve. The more you accomplish the more you will be motivated to reach your end goal.

Setting goals gives you a clearer focus. We all have a thousand plans and ideas in our heads. Writing down what is achievable makes it much easier to focus on where we want to go and gives us a clear path to get there.

Having your goals set out means that you are focusing your time on what is absolutely necessary. Time is precious and you don’t want to waste it on ideas that aren’t going anywhere.

Setting goals can help to release your creative energy which will allow you to think of ways to achieve them. It also allows you to clearly track your progress.

Finally, setting goals helps to build confidence. As you achieve each small goal, your confidence in achieving the next one will increase. As each target is met you will feel a sense of personal pride in getting further along the way to reaching your full potential.

SMART Goals

This is the way that I find to be the most effective for setting goals. I find it very useful for being able to clearly set achievable goals.

  • S – Specific (or Significant).
  • M – Measurable (or Meaningful).
  • A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented).
  • R – Relevant (or Rewarding).
  • T – Time-bound (or Trackable).

SPECIFIC- Your goals need to be clearly defined and understandable. Go into as much detail as possible so it is clear what it is you want to achieve.

MEASURABLE- You need to know that your goals are achievable and when they have been achieved. This way you can track your progress and stay motivated.

ATTAINABLE- Your goal needs to be realistic so that it can be achieved.

RELEVANT- Your goal needs to matter to you and align with your other goals.
Each goal needs to be worthwhile and be set at the right time for you.

TIME-BOUND- Your goal needs a target date so you have a deadline to focus on and work towards.

A Few Goal Setting Tips

- Make each goal a positive statement.

- Set precise goals including dates and the amount of time you think it will take to achieve them.

- Be sure to write your goals down. This gives the goal much more power and you are more likely to achieve it.

- Prioritise your goals. This will keep you focused. One goal to concentrate on is much easier than three or four.

- Try to keep goals small. It will take much longer to achieve a larger goal and you could get discouraged at your progress.

- Set realistic goals that you know are possible for you to achieve.

Achieving Your Goals

Once you have achieved a goal, enjoy the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment. If you have achieved a goal that is particularly significant to you then reward yourself.
Take time to observe the progress you have made on other goals and using your experience from the goal you have just achieved.

Take the things you have learned and make changes to future goals if needed. If you encountered problems take the steps necessary to fix this.

When I first started this blog 2 months ago I spent a week or so suffering from information overload. I found that I wasn’t really achieving anything. Once I started to set smaller goals and was clear about what I wanted to achieve the progress I made was astounding.
If you don’t already set goals then give a try. Let me know how you get on.
