Do People Suspect Swimmer Katie Ledecky of Doping (Steroids Use)?

A lot of famous athletes take or have taken steroids. Probably everyone knows that these medications were taken by the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger. There are also suspicions that Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, Evander Holyfield are/were on steroids. If an athlete starts to receive champion titles, many people start to suspect that he or she achieved these results due to doping. On the Internet, there are rumors that Katie Ledecky also uses steroids.

Who is Katie Ledecky?

Kathleen Genevieve “Katie” Ledecky is an American swimmer who has made significant progress at a young age.

The future Olympic champion was born in 1997 in the family of David Ledecky (a lawyer of Czech-Jewish origin) and Mary Jen Heigan (an Irish who in the past was also a swimmer). The grandfather of the sports girl, Jaromir Ledecky, emigrated to the USA from Czechoslovakia in 1947.

Sports career of Katie Ledecky

Debuting at the age of 15 as part of the US team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Ledecky received a gold medal at a distance of 800 meters freestyle, leading from the beginning of the swim until the end and showing the second result in the history of these competitions. Then she took part in the following competitions:
  • FINA World Championships (Spain, 2013);
  • Pacific Championship (Australia, 2014);
  • World Aquatics Championships (Russia, 2015).

Interesting facts about Katie

At the World Cup 2015 in Kazan, Ledecky received the nickname Crazy Woman. It was “stuck” to the American after the final at a distance of 200m freestyle.

“Crazy Woman”, all her rivals on the final swim said. The words they said quickly passed to the stands. Kathy herself admitted that she likes this nickname, however, she is not a “crazy woman”, she just loves what she does.

“I did a lot of training to be able to withstand such a number of swings that fell on me in Kazan. But I completely trust my coach, and my self-confidence has strengthened this week. Everything is going great. I’ve tried a bit from the starts, but I cannot say that it interferes. I know that there are still a few swimmings, on which I must give all my energy. And I’m preparing for them. I was ready for such physical and nervous loads. This is what we have been preparing for a whole year,” Ledecky said.

An omelet in the restaurant Ize’s is named in honor of Katie. It is called Katie’s Gold Medal Omelet. It is ordered for Katie by her mother every day at 06:30 after the morning workout. In addition, Katie was on the TIME list of the 100 most influential women in the world in 2016. The swimmer was on the list along with Hillary Clinton and Angela Merkel and was the youngest member of the rating.

In 2015, Ledecky showed the same result at 400 meters as Phelps, it was 4 minutes 2.67 seconds. She proposed Phelps to compete with her. “Now you’re tired, so let’s go,” Phelps said in jest and eventually refused. Now he understands that he could lose: “She really overtakes all the guys! I have not seen anything like it in my life.” In Budapest, Cathy, however, evasively answered the question of whether she would like an official competition with Phelps: “I swam with Michael once or twice in training. Believe me, I would gladly compete with him yet, but he has already completed his career. We have different techniques, and he will win anyway.”

Some people did not agree with Ledecky. First, Ledecky, passing all the training cycles, is able to bypass Phelps, who switched to open water, wetsuits, and competitions with virtual sharks. Secondly, the technique of these athletes is about the same. For this reason, commentators often say that Ledecky is swimming like a man. The journalists tried several times to give a sexist connotation to such statements, but they did not succeed. Katie herself is satisfied with everything. “I accept such statements for a compliment. After all, it is true, my technique is borrowed from freestyle men,” Ledecky said in an interview with NBC in 2016.

According to Ledecky, she is distinguished from other swimmers by the fact that she uses her hips more in the water and makes more powerful strokes. It is also noticeable that her left arm is held ahead more than the right one. When Cathy took over men’s technique, her swimming time decreased a little.

Katie Ledecky and illegal drugs (doping)

In an interview with NBS in 2016 (PBS NewsHour), the channel’s journalist asked the swimmer the question that the whole world is now wondering: whether she is taking doping. “Was I shocked? A little, – Ledecky told to ESPN. She also said that it was a funny question. The sports girl answered that she doesn’t use these drugs. Even in this situation, Katie found something positive: “It’s an honor for me that people think that I’m doing something impossible.” Ledecky was also asked about doping at the World Championships in Kazan, but then the journalist of the German TV channel ZDF chose a more careful formulation, calling successes of the American swimmer “suspicious”.

What drugs do Katie Ledecky use?

We have no idea about what steroids are presumably used by Katie Ledecky. Probably, these are Oxandrolone or testosterone propionate (fast testosterone ester). But we repeat, these are just assumptions. Perhaps Katie is completely natural. But it is possible that it takes other drugs (not steroids) to increase performance, like natural HGH supplements for sale. The opinions of Internet users on this occasion are different. Some users write that it’s strange that Katie beat other athletes by so much. Other users believe that she is clean. They think that she has the best technique, cardio-vascular endurance, and smarter/stronger training than other girls.
