Well, yesterday was leg day. I like leg day.
One thing about my legs, well Thighs in particular, is that they will never be slim. Ever. Even at my skinniest (115 lbs) I didn’t have slim thighs. They’ve always been thicker and I love them. They’ve saved my phone from dropping into the toilet a time or two.
(Thank you thickness!)
- Squats – they’re the standard when it comes to leg day. Of course there are SO many different variations. There are the band squats which you use a resistance band at the calves to aid in the squat. The goblet squat which involves the use of a kettle bell held in front of you as you squat. The squat jump which is just how it sounds. You squat and then jump. There’s the pistol squat, which I still can’t do. At all. Barbell squats, which I really like these. Curtsy squats which are something I’m still working on. Split squats which work good with a bench or any other knee height object. And many others.
- Dumbbell lunges – lunges with dumbbells in your hands.
- Leg press – I like/hate this one. It feels really, really good, but when your knees are in your chest ooohhh boy does that burn pushing back.
- Leg extensions – this machine really works the quads. I can just see my muscle bulging on out.
- Leg curls – working the calves. We all love the bulging calves.
- Barbell dead lift – yeah, this one surprised me too. Barbell dead lift? Isn’t that an arm/shoulder/back thing???? Yes…but it’s also a leg/booty thing. It’s another of those all purpose workouts that target more than one area. Yay for weight lifting.
- Step ups – these can be done with or without dumbbells. I like adding in the dumbbells. More weight works more muscle…right?
- Donkey kicks – yeah…donkey kicks work that booty.
- Side kicks – working the thighs.
- Bicycle kicks – work more than the legs, they also work the lower tummy.
- Burpees – Yeah burpees. They’re not the best thing in the world because they burn after a few, BUT it’s another of the all purpose work everything awesome for legs and booty workouts. I don’t do them as much as I should. Maybe I’ll start doing more burpees.
- The fire hydrant – or as I call it…the the dog peeing on the tree. That’s another that is literally what it sounds like. Lift your leg out to the side like a dog peeing on a tree. Do enough of those and it starts to burn in the hips and thighs.
- Side leg rises – I like to do these on the machine. Minimum weight, but the resistance helps build up the muscle rather than just burn the fat.
- Side lunge – another lunge. To the side.
- And lets not leave out the good ol’ fashion running.
Those are just a few of the leg workouts I do on leg day. Like I said, it’s not my way of getting slim thighs, but I do have toned thighs. At least they’re getting there. We’re still working on the thighs. I can’t complain though. They’re definitely a lot smoother and nicer than they were at one point.
What leg exercises do you like doing? What makes your muscles Burn so good?
