South Texas College is proud to host South Texas Health System and Prominence Health, its third annual Prevent, Treat, and Beat Diabetes Symposium.
The two-day event will start with an educational conference designed to empower children with the knowledge and tools to maintain their health, with students from local school districts expected to attend on Friday, April 5.
On Saturday, April 6, the entire community is invited to engage in a range of activities and events, which include health checks and screenings, cooking and exercise demonstrations, as well as informational seminars.
Alarming statistics indicate that approximately 1 in 10 people in the United States has diabetes, while shockingly, 1 in 5 individuals is unaware they have the disease. These numbers are believed to be even higher in the Rio Grande Valley.
As a leading institution in the education of future health professionals, STC remains committed to participating in significant initiatives, such as this symposium, aimed at raising awareness and improving the health of the RGV community. By actively engaging in endeavors like these, STC plays a vital role in advancing the well-being of the region.
All activities are free and open to the public.
