Our Mental health is as important as our physical health. It includes everything from our social well-being to our psychological, and emotional well-being.

Our Mental Health affects us in a broadway. Some people don’t take the importance of mental health seriously. It is very important to know how our mental health affects our daily lives.

The Importance of Mental Health Awareness

1. It affects our thinking and mindset

People think according to their mental health. Our mental health plays a major role in how our mind works.

If a person is mentally fit and healthy, his thinking will be positive and he will have an optimistic outlook on life whereas a person who is not mentally healthy will think negatively of everything. He will always think negative of everyone and everything. So it is necessary to take care of our mental health.

2. Affects our behavior

Our mental health affects our behavior. A person mentally healthy will always behave good and will be nice to everyone. But a person who is not mentally healthy might get irritated easily, get annoyed by everyone and everything will get stressed out easily. So it’s very important to keep care of our mental health.

3. Affects thinking of our own-self

A person who is not mentally healthy can also start doubting their own self. As poor mental health can affect us negatively, some people who do not take care of their mental health on time, have chances to fall into depression or have anxiety. This leads to them doubting their own self, having no confidence, and zero self-esteem.

Raising awareness for mental health is very important for all. According to a study reported in WHO, at least 6.5% of the population of India suffers from serious mental health disorders. About 1 in 5 people in the US experience some form of mental illness.

If not treated on time, it can lead to serious mental disorders like Clinical depression, Anxiety disorder, Bipolar disorder, Dementia, Schizophrenia, OCD, etc.

Poor mental health can affect anyone. Anyone can have mental health disorders, any child to an adolescent to an old-age people.

In some countries like India, China, Other Asian countries and Even in the U.S., mental health is considered a taboo. There, people have that only mental or crazy people seek help from psychologists and psychiatrists.

Some people even confuse mental health disorders with being possessed by a spirit or ghost. They prefer Tantrik rituals and home remedies instead of going to the doctor. This situation is worse in Asian countries.

There are many myths related to mental illness which need to be removed from people’s mindsets. Some of Mental Health Myths are:

1. People with mental problems cannot do a job

People with mental problems can also do jobs. It just depends upon whether their problem is serious or not.

2. Mental health problems are rare

No, mental health problems are very common these days and can affect anyone.

3. Mental illness can be cured on its own

Yes, if it’s an illness then it cannot be cured on its own. It actually depends upon how severe the problem is.

4. People with mental disorders are scary

No, people with mental problems or disorders are not scary. It’s just their problems that can make them seem scary sometimes.

5. Children don’t experience mental problems

Children too can experience mental health problems, and old people can experience it too.

6. Mental illness cannot be cured

No, it’s not true. Mental illness can be cured and even faster if treated on time.

What to do if you feel like you’re not mentally fit?

If you ever feel too much stressed out, or depressed, sad for no reason, have difficulty in thinking straight, then go visit a psychiatrist.

Don’t worry about other people. No one will judge you and no one is more important than your mental health. So go to a psychiatrist or a psychologist if you feel any of these things.

If you’re afraid of it, then you can also seek help from doctors/psychiatrist. There are many websites that provide the facility to consult doctors online.

If you can’t do that either, then take help from your family and friends. They will definitely help you.

Do not take any medication for any mental health problem without consulting a doctor.

There are many things to do to create awareness towards mental health among people. They are as follows:

1. Make campaigns

You can make campaigns to raise awareness among people about mental health and it’s importance. It can be a part of the School project, Health welfare, and NGO’S.

2. Make mental health education compulsory for all schools and colleges

Making health education compulsory is a great initiative to create awareness towards mental health issues. Students should be taught about mental health from the beginning so that they can learn and also bring the change.

3. Make mental health education compulsory at workplace too

To bring mental health awareness, government and private companies should also make mental health education compulsory for all the employees.

It can be a great start to bring change.

So, taking care of your mental health is very important for everyone. Take care of yourself and be healthy, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
