गुलाबो सा निखार!

Nanima and Dadima have always wanted you to have the गुलाबो सा निखार. Rosewater has always been their go-to ingredient to solve all your Skin woes and to make you look as pretty as a Rose, right? But what is so special about rose water that makes it your grandmom’s favourite ingredient? We have the answers to your questions, and this time, we’ve gone beyond. We’ve even got you a simple DIY recipe so that you can make the rosewater right in your kitchen, and have it at your disposal, whenever you want! Read on… we promise we won’t disappoint you!

Reduces Acne

Yes, we’ve been talking a lot about acne lately, but who doesn’t want to get rid of acne! Rose water is a great facilitator that helps remove the excess oils from your skin. It curbs the growth of the bacteria that leads to acne. Owing to its pH balancing properties, everybody counts on rosewater to reduce acne during breakouts!

Hydrates Your Skin

Rose water works on your pores and allows your skin to breathe! Rose water works its magic instantly and you will feel it when you talk, smile, or just breathe. Rose water is known for its hydrating properties and is your nanima’s favourite nuska to heal dry skin. It will never let you down.

Works As A Toner

We all know the importance of the Cleansing-Toning-Moisturizing routine! Keeping that in mind, the toning process will be even more effective if it is done with a natural element like rose water. The astringent properties of rose water remove the dirt and oil from the pores and help shrink it. If used as a toner on a daily basis, this will enhance the texture of your skin and help in the anti-ageing process as well.

Reduces Puffiness

Given today’s lifestyle and its stress levels, we can’t really avoid puffiness. But, worry not. Rose water’s anti-inflammatory and cooling properties make it an awesome agent that can reduce puffiness, especially under your eyes. All you have to do is dip cotton pads in rose water and place them over your eyes! It will only take a few minutes to reduce the puffiness.

It Soothes!

Rose water soothes your skin. The anti-inflammatory and cooling properties of rosewater are effective in healing sunburns. In case of skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, rose water can soothe irritation and help your skin heal faster! However, you shouldn’t completely rely on this and consult with your doctor for the same.

And, now we move on to the DIY recipe! Follow these simple steps and make your own rosewater at home

  • You need fresh rose petals to make rose water. Pick roses from your backyard or your friend’s! Pick them in the morning – a couple of hours after sunrise – to ensure that the dew has evaporated. Avoid getting roses from vendors as those roses are loaded with chemicals and pesticides.
  • Wash the petals thoroughly to remove dirt and bugs.
  • Assemble them in a pot of distilled water.
  • Add a little water – just a little – to cover the petals. Excessive water will dilute the essence of the rose water.   just enough water to cover the petals. Too much water will give you very diluted rose water
  • Cover the pot with a lid. Allow it to simmer on a low flame. The water should be steaming hot not boiling hot.
  • The water should steam until the petals lose their colour. At this point, the water should take the colour of the rose petals and the rose oil would be floating on the surface.
  • This is the last step. Strain the water and pour it into a container. For best use, you can store the rose water in the fridge.

We’d love to hear from you! Tell us your experience of using rosewater and making rosewater at home. Alternatively, if you also have a different way of making rosewater, do share it with us in the comments. Keep glowing, keep shining!
