Revolutionizing Flagships – OnePlus 7 & OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus fans have been waiting eagerly since the launch of Oneplus 6T in October 2018. OnePlus has a steady reputation for being the industry’s most affordable flagship-quality smartphone manufacturers.

It’s not been long since the new flagships from OnePlus were launched in India. OnePlus 7 looks after its predecessor OnePlus 6T while the OnePlus 7 Pro is an improved version, fit enough to compete with other similar smartphones in the market.

The bezel-less design has been reimagined to a notch-less design offering a fully immersive screen experience in OnePlus 7 Pro. Since its launch, OnePlus 7 Pro has been gaining all the attention due to its sleek new design, pop-up selfie camera, and curved glass display. What people tend to overlook is how OnePlus 7 might offer a better-value-for-money deal.

OnePlus has already marked its position in the global smartphone market offering flagship quality smartphones, which cost less compared to its rivals. At the same time, OnePlus has ensured to keep up its stringent quality and performance without compromising for profits. Ever since its launch in 2013, this smartphone producer has been surprising users worldwide with their products that boast of high-end specifications.

So, now the problem is how to compare the flagship models, as it’s a battle of the strongest. OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7 Pro? Which is a better alternative? Money Value or Specs? Teardrop notch or a pop-up camera? The dilemma is justified after a long tiring wait.

We understand your position. When you can’t decide between the two. Hence we have compared the high end OnePlus with the standard OnePlus 7, to help you understand what you get and don’t get at ₹32,999/-.

What’s Similar?

Following the similar naming conventions, OnePlus have named their latest flagships OnePlus 7 & OnePlus 7 Pro. But they have as many similarities as the differences they have. First, let us take a look at how they are similar.

Both OnePlus 7 & OnePlus 7 Pro have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor heart when it comes to performance.

Just as seen in the previous OnePlus models, both of these devices flaunt premium build qualities, with metal and glass bodies.

Based on Android v9.0 (Pie), both the models have a custom Oxygen OS 9.5 offering custom UI.

Both the models have in-display fingerprint sensors and offer Dual nano-SIM slot.

Dolby Atmos powered dual speakers provide immersive audio experience as in no smartphones before.

Both of the models have USB 3.1 GEN1, Type-C ports.

One important thing to be noted is that neither of the phones has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead, they support standard Type-C earphones.

What’s Different?

They may be powered by the same heart and shall have the same build quality, but the differences are plenty. Everything from screen size to battery is different.
Display
While the OnePlus 7 that looks after the OnePlus 6T sports a 6.41-inch, Optic AMOLED flat display, the OnePlus 7 Pro offers a 6.67-inch, Fluid AMOLED curved display.
Even the screen resolution differs in the two. OnePlus 7 has the standard 60 Hz Full HD+ resolution. OnePlus 7 Pro has a QHD+ resolution with HDR10+ for crystal clear detailing and a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother animations across the screen. This gives OnePlus 7 Pro an upper hand over its younger brother.
Front Camera

The OnePlus 7 features a 16-megapixel front camera with Sony sensor in the teardrop notch on the screen.
OnePlus 7 Pro has a pop-up selfie camera of 16-megapixels, again boasting of a Sony sensor. It has totally eliminated the teardrop notch on the screen. Thus we get to enjoy an obstruction-less, immersive screen with no thick bezel, notch or hole-punch.

Rear Camera

OnePlus 7 has a dual rear camera, with a 48-megapixel main sensor coupled with a 5-megapixel sensor for depth perception.
OnePlus 7 Pro on the other hand sports a triple rear camera with 48-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra wide sensor, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. All of these combine to offer ultra wide snapshots, 3x optical zoom, and precise portraits. If you are a fan of crystal clear photography, then think no more, this is the phone for you.

Design

Though both of them offer a premium build quality, the standard OnePlus 7 sports a teardrop notch similar to OnePlus 6T. Whereas, OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a notch-less display, thanks to the pop-up selfie camera. It not just increases the appeal of the phone but has also made it a much-discussed topic in recent weeks.
While the OnePlus 7 weighs around 182 grams, the OnePlus 7 Pro is slightly heavier at 206 grams.

Hardware

OnePlus 7 comes in 6 GB RAM/128 GB and 8 GB RAM/256 GB storage options whereas OnePlus 7 Pro comes in 6 GB RAM/128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM/256 GB storage and 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage options.
OnePlus 7 has a linear motor for its vibration while OnePlus 7 Pro has haptic vibration.
Both of them have non-expandable storage options. Which means, neither of these models support microSD storage and you’ll have to be satisfied with the internal storage you opt for- either 128 GB or 256 GB.

Battery

OnePlus 7 has a 3700 mAh non-removable battery with Fast Charging, just like its predecessor, OnePlus 6T.
OnePlus 7 Pro has a pretty big battery of 4000 mAh with Warp Charge 30. It offers 34% faster charging as compared to its previous model OnePlus 6T.
The liquid cooling system in the device enables charging while using without overheating your phone. It ensures one can continue using their phones even on low battery. Ten cooling layers are placed throughout the device to keep it cool, enabling usage with optimal performance. While normal chargers tend to slow down as the phone heats up, Warp Charge 30 maintains the optimal temperature and gives peak performance right from 0 to 100%.
The large capacity battery is supposed to keep the phone running for a whole day under normal usage. It offers freedom from being tied to your power-bank. But the 90 Hz QHD+ screen is likely to drain your battery a bit faster compared to the standard OnePlus 7.
Neither of them offers wireless charging support as opposed to most industry leading phone manufacturers. The fast charging is, however, a very efficient incorporation, allowing users to charge their phones in a brief time period of twenty minutes or so.

Price
The standard OnePlus 7 is cheaper, starting at ₹32,999/- for 6 GB/128 GB variant and costing ₹37,999/- for 8GB/ 256GB variant.
The advanced OnePlus 7 Pro on the other hand costs as much as ₹48,999/- for 6GB/128 GB variant and ₹52,999/- for 8GB/ 256GB variant.
What’s the Verdict?
Premium upgrades have obviously made the OnePlus 7 Pro score more. But let’s start with the more affordable OnePlus 7. OnePlus 7 is definitely an improvement over the existing OnePlus 6T, with its killer features, and may seem a feasible alternative for most as it comes with the same price tag.

The price tag is what has been making OnePlus fans to flinch their brows. Compared to other high-end smartphones, the price is certainly low, but so are the specs. Consider it as a pocket-friendly high-end flagship alternative and it fits in right.

Most of the features are better than those available in smartphones of the same price range, making OnePlus a better choice.

Considering the two, OnePlus 7 Pro is expensive and costs ₹16,000/- more than the standard version. But that is a very decent price for those features.

If you are focused on value for money or an upgrade to your current smartphone, then OnePlus 7 is the best choice for you. It is of the same price range as the previous OnePlus 6T but comes loaded with features.
