One of the most important things to do if you have diabetes is to maintain a healthy Blood Sugar level. Uncontrollable levels can cause serious diseases and conditions like DKA, stroke, heart disease, and several other conditions.

When meeting with your doctor, it is important to set a target range to keep your Blood sugar at. Frequently checking throughout the day will help you to stay inside of your target range as well. There are some things that you can do to help you maintain your blood glucose levels.

One very important factor is eating meals at a consistent time. This will help you to monitor your blood glucose level, but there is much more to it than that.

Skipping a meal can cause your blood sugar to plummet while you are asleep at night. Not only that, skipping meals like breakfast puts you at risk of having high blood sugar levels or extremely low amounts of blood sugar depending on the medication.

Also, skipping meals can cause overeating. This could lead to gaining weight, which is not good for your health. If you are overweight or obese, it is suggested that you try to cut 5% to 7% of your body weight.

It is important to make sure your body is also eating the right kind of foods. When you eat carbohydrates, make sure that you are eating healthy carbohydrates, preferably complex. You can go on a low-carb diet, but you could accidentally deprive you of very important nutrients.

Fruits and grains are a great way to get carbs into your body. It is important that you work out a meal plan with your healthcare team. They will be able to help you create a nutritious diet.

Smaller portion sizes and spreading your meals out are the keys to success when it comes to managing your blood sugar levels.

If you decide to eat pasta, it is important that you eat it al dente. This will prevent it from giving up glucose quickly, causing it to be used quickly. If you eat too much, then pasta could spike your blood sugar.

If your doctor and you decide to put pasta inside of your diet, then it is important that you limit the portion sizes you eat. It is really easy to overcook and overeat when it comes to pasta. Limit yourself to one serving whenever you eat dinner.

A good way to also manage your blood sugar is through products made specifically for diabetes like shakes and protein bars. These snacks are great meal replacements that make it very easy to keep track of your nutritional data.

However, these should be used to replace a meal. Do not eat them and your meal, otherwise your blood sugar could spike. I would carry them around in a backpack or purse to use if you are not able to eat at your normal time.

Overall, it is extremely important to control your blood sugar. Controlling it will put you steps ahead in your fight against diabetes.
