Recovering from Varicose veins: Before and After Surgery

Varicose Veins are a common condition that affects the veins in the body, causing them to become swollen and twisted. These veins often appear bulging and bluish under the skin and are most commonly found on the legs and feet. While surface Varicose Veins, caused by overfilled blood, may not be severe, deeper varicose veins can cause pain and discomfort. Varicose veins are more commonly found in adults, with women being more likely to be affected than men. Fortunately, varicose veins can be treated through varicose vein laser surgery.

At PharmEasy SurgiCare, we want to share with you what our customers have to say about their experiences before and after undergoing treatment for Varicose veins. This includes their thoughts on the process leading up to the surgery and their experiences following the procedure.

Some Do’s and don’ts for patients recovered from varicose veins surgery

Do’s

  1. To help reduce swelling and promote healing after surgery, you can put an ice pack over the affected area for 15 minutes at a time.
  2. You should also check the incision sites daily and be aware that it is normal to see the light pink fluid on the bandage for the first 24 hours.
  3. To protect the incision sites, keep them out of water for 48 hours and consider taking a sponge bath until the bandages are removed.
  4. Your healthcare provider may also recommend wearing compression stockings for a few days or weeks. These stockings gently squeeze your legs to help prevent swelling and improve circulation.

Don’ts

  1. To help promote healing and prevent complications after surgery or injury, it is important to avoid sitting or lying down for long periods of time. Instead, try to keep your leg raised when sitting and avoid standing for extended periods.
  2. Walking for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 times a day, can also be helpful in the first 1 to 2 weeks after recovering from the procedure.
  3. While it is important to stay active, you should avoid activities that put a lot of strain on your body, such as running, jumping, or lifting heavy objects, for the first 1 to 2 weeks.
  4. Additionally, you should avoid taking hot baths during this time.

Varicose veins are not usually a serious health concern, but they can cause discomfort and may lead to more serious problems if left untreated. Complications of varicose veins may include skin ulcers, blood clots, bleeding from the veins and inflammation or infection of the veins.

Undergoing varicose veins surgery on time can help to alleviate these symptoms and prevent complications. It is important to see a healthcare professional as soon as you notice any symptoms of varicose veins.
