Queenstown Winter Festival 2017

The chilly season is finally upon us, and it’s that time of year again – the Queenstown Winter Festival is back for its 43rd year. This four day extravaganza will see the world’s adventure capital showcasing its unique culture and community in celebration of all things winter.

Since its inaugural event in 1975, the Queenstown Winter Festival has grown into the country’s largest winter-dedicated event, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. From street parties and fireworks to international and local acts, sporting competitions, comedy and family fun, the festival has something to entice everyone to experience some winter adventure.

Macpac is back for 2017 as the official clothing sponsor, and we’re looking forward to presenting some exciting events in Queenstown.

Macpac Ambassador Kyle Mulinder at last year’s PechaKucha

PechaKucha Night Queenstown vol.7 presented by Macpac – Sat 24 June
This is our third time bringing PechaKucha to Queenstown – if you’ve been to one of these events before, you’ll know just how funny, interesting and challenging they are, and if this is your first time, you’re in for an entertaining night! This popular event features a high calibre line up of presenters who share their adventures, experiences and knowledge with you by talking you through 20 slides of images at just 20 seconds apiece. This results in plenty of laughs, some interesting stories, and the opportunity to mix with some incredible people. Stay tuned – the official line up will be announced soon! For more information and to reserve your spot in the audience, head over to the booking page.

Mountain Bikes on Snow

Macpac Mountain Bikes on Snow – Sat 24 June
The name says it all – and it sure sounds like fun! If wheeling your way down a snowy course on the Remarkables sounds like your idea of a fun morning, then the Mountain Bikes on Snow event is for you! Pssst – as if the promise of an adrenaline rush wasn’t enough, there are also loads of great Macpac prizes up for grabs. So, what are you waiting for – set yourself a challenge and enter here.

Skin to Summit

Macpac Skin to Summit – Sun 25 June
Picture this – you’ve reached the summit of a glorious peak, the sun has risen, and your beautiful surrounds are basking in the early morning glow. This could be you on the 25th of June if you register for the Macpac Skin to Summit. For those who aren’t familiar with the term, ‘skinning’ it involves sticking nylon strips with a fur like surface (skins) on the bottom of your skis. These fixtures allow you to glide over the snow, moving upwards while the ‘fur’ provides you with enough grip to stop you slipping backwards. It’s a lot easier than hiking in snow – and faster. We’ll kick off the morning at 7am at either Coronet Peak Registration or the Remarkables Base Building, with a race start of 8am (yes, that’s right – it’s a race, but no pressure, there are great Macpac prizes for the speedy and not-so-speedy). We’ll confirm the course closer to the time as its dependent on the conditions, but you can find more information and enter yourself here.

Macpac Treasure Traverse – every day!
One for the young adventurers – this treasure hunt will take you from Earnslaw Park around downtown Queenstown and as far as Memorial Arch. Simply pick up your map from the Info Tent anytime between 12pm-9pm for the duration of the festival, and use your navigational skills to locate all the hidden treasures around the course. You’ll also be in the draw to win some great Macpac gear and other fantastic prizes. This event is free, and you can find out more here.
