Do you know what you want?

I wanna really, really, really wanna zigazig ah! I’m not even going to apologise for quoting the Spice Girls, I mean who wouldn’t given the opportunity?

Now let’s get down to business!

Do you know your goals? To know your goals you must know what you want. Finding out what I wanted was one of the hardest obstacles I had to overcome. For a long time I felt lost and unsure what the future held all because I didn’t know what I wanted and as a result didn’t know where I was going.

What are you working towards?

For those of you in the same situation, there is hope. All you have to do is ask. Life provides answers to those who ask questions. You’ll more than likely have to ask the same question over and over, day after day. Your answer will come.

One of the greatest pieces of advise I ever received was from Steve Martin (not the comedian). I asked Steve, while out in LA, how I could figure out what I wanted and his answer was simple and to the point, which I love. Steve said;

Everybody wants something. It doesn’t matter how small it is, whether it’s a new pair of jeans or a mansion. Just start working towards it. Once you have your pair of jeans, you’ll want something else. Once you have that you want another thing, until eventually you find what you’ve always been looking for.

How do you get what you want?

Now you have an idea where to start, the key is to set goals. Ask yourself the following questions and write your answers down on pen and paper;

  • What do I want to achieve?
  • What do I have to become in order to achieve it?
  • When do I want to achieve it by?
  • Who’s help do I need?

Once you have your answers and they’re written down it’s time to start writing your goals. I like to keep my goals short and as simple as possible. This way they’re easy to remember and to the point. For example one of my current goals is;

Fly to Australia with Charlotte on Wednesday 28th December 2016 with £14,000.

My method may or may not be for you but one thing is for certain, if you write your goals down you are far more likely to achieve them than if they are floating around in your mind.

In Summary

Knowing what I wanted was something I struggled with for over a year. It felt like I was wondering through a forest with no idea which direction to head in, in order for me to see sunlight again. But once you see the light, you’re quickly out of that forest with a feeling of relief and excitement.

I hope you’ve taken at least 3 points of value from today and journalled them! Thanks again for reading and I’ll see you soon.
