Children’s Peasant Dress

1. Print the pattern.  Make sure that you set your printer to 100%  so your pattern is at teh appropriate scale  to help you.
2. Cut out fabric pieces.  Make sure you follow the pattern measurements exactly.  Also, if you want to add a fancy hem make sure you leave a little extra space to make your hem.  Leave about 1/2″-1/4″ inch of fabric at the bottom of the hem to ensure you have enough for the hem.
3. Stitch the sides together.  Pin and then stitch one sleeve piece at the curve to the armhole curve on one of the bodice pieces.
4. Put the right sides together, then pin and stitch the remaining sleeve at curve to the only remaining curve on the bodice piece.
5. Serge or zig zag raw edges and press seams.
6. If you choose to use a serger, serge the bottom of each sleeve, removing 1/4 inch of fabric.  If you are not using a serger then press bottom of each sleeve 1/4 inch in the wrong direction.
7. Now press the bottom of each sleeve 1/2 inch toward the wrong side.
8. If you are using a serger, serge around the neckline, removing 1/4 ” of fabric.  Then push 1/2 inch of the neckline to the wrong dies.
9. With the right sides together, stitch the dress together at each side from the bottom of the dress through the folded edge of sleeve, unfolding the pressed edge on sleeve.  Zig zag or serge raw seams and press seams.
10. Then fold each sleeve back along pressed edge and stitch close serged/folded/ edge of fabric.  This is forming a case for elastic and a small opening to push the elastic through.
11. Stitch close to the serged or pressed edge of the fabric at the neckline.
12. Now cut 2 pieces of elastic that are both 7 inches long.  Insert the elastic into the small opening using a safety pin to push it through.  The 7 inches of elastic will allow the arm to expand for a chubby baby and can decrease for smaller babies.  The elastic should overlap slightly so you can sew it together.
13. Stitch each of the openings closed on the sleeves.
14. Cut another piece of elastic that is 12 inches long.  Insert the elastic into the neckline of the dress and using a safety pin push the elastic around the neckline.  The elastic should overlap about 1/2 inch.  Now stitch together the ends of the elastic and then stitch the opening closed.
15. Serge the bottom hem of the dress, removing 1/4 inch of the fabric.
16. Now you are done!

Zipper Coin Pouch

What you need:

A Zipper that is at least 9 inches long

Two Fabric pieces for the outside, 9″ long x 7″ tall

two fabric pieces for the lining, 9″ long x 7″ tall

steps:

1. Cut your zipper if it is not 9″ long.
2. Place the zipper face down on an outer layer of fabric and the outer layer of fabric face up.  Make sure that their edges are matching.  Now switch to a zipper foot on your sewing machine and stitch the zipper to the top of the outer piece of fabric.
3. Now match the other outer piece of fabric with the zipper.  Make sure the zipper is face down and the fabric is face up.  Sew the other piece of fabric to the other side of the zipper.
4. Place the inside layer of lining like you did for the outer layer, stitch the lining layers at the same spot you stitched the outer layers.
5. Now top stitch close to the zipper so the fabric does not pop up or get caught in the zipper.
6. Unzip the zipper about 3/4 of an inch.  Fold the pouch so that the two outside layers are facing each other and the zipper is inside out.  Make sure that you match the outer linings with the zippers and fold the zipper teeth toward the lining.
7. Stitch around the edges but make sure you leave a hole in the bottom of the lining for turning.  Clip the corners of the layers but make sure you do not clip the stitching.
8. Turn the pouch right sides out now.
9. Turn the raw edges of the hole left in the lining inside and stitch the hole closed.
10. You are finished!

DIY Headband

What you need:

• Fold over elastic
• Scrap fabric (Cotton works best)
• Basic sewing supplies and a sewing machine
• Headband template

Instructions:

1. Using the template cut out 2 pieces of headband.  Fold the fabric and make sure to place the wider end of the template on the fold.  Each of the headband pieces should be 12 inches.  If you want an oval shape headband the ends should be 1.25″ and the middle of the template should be 2.5″ in the middle.
2. Now cut a 10″ piece of elastic.
3. Place the right sides of each piece of fabric together.  Now fold down 1/4″ of fabric and iron one end of the headband.  Slide in the FOE between the fabric pieces   Pin the two pieces together.
4. Starting at the end of the headband where the FOE is stick out sew the two pieces together, then sew the two longer sides of the headband. Leave the other end of the headband open and leave 1/2″ of the two long sides open too.
5. Then pull the inside out from the open end.
6. Now iron the headband flat.
7. Now slip the FOE into the opening.  It is recommended that you measure the person’s head you are making the headband for before you sew it.
8. Top stitch all around the headband to give it a clean and finished look.  Remember to backstitch on the ends to secure the elastic.
9. Now you have a practical and cute headband for you or someone you love.
