This Machine is Pretty Great at its Job

Despite the fact that Baby Lock might not be a “big” brand at the moment, we do have to say that, based on most of the reviews we have read and our own experience, this machine is pretty great at sewing.

It’s easy to use, easy to thread, and, in general, produces some pretty good results overall.

With that said, though, we are the first to admit that this is not a “fancy” sewing machine. There are not a lot of bells and whistles here. What you’ll get with this machine is a pretty simple, straightforward sewing machine that is good at its one job.

If you’re not looking for something that can embroider and handle all kinds of designs, and you, instead, just want a simple, basic machine, then this option is for you.

It is Super Lightweight

Something else that we learned from reading the many Baby Lock Sewing machine reviews online is that this machine is super lightweight.

That doesn’t mean it’s poorly constructed or cheap, however. It just means that it’s well-made without being huge and bulky.

Thus, if you do not have a designated sewing room at home and, instead, have to regularly move your sewing machine around from room to room, you will really enjoy how light and easy this machine is to lift.

It is also nice if you are the kind of person who likes to carry your sewing machine around a lot and who wants to be able to take it with you wherever you go.

Everyone Can Use this Machine, even Beginners

One thing that we really like about this machine is that, aside from a few minor flaws, it is actually incredibly easy to use.

The overall way that it works is really simple, and the instructions that the machine comes with are crystal clear.

Because of this fact, you can easily use this machine, no matter what your skill level. If you are a beginner, you should have no problem figuring out how the machine works. And, honestly, following the instructions closely will probably help you to improve your overall sewing skills.

For those who aren’t beginners, the machine is a real piece of cake, probably one of the easiest and most simple machines that you will ever use.

And, really, sewing is difficult enough in and of itself. Why make it even harder with an overly complex machine?

It Has a Lot of Built-in Stitches

In fact, you can expect 537 built-in stitches, all of which will make sewing so much easier for you and open up a whole world of design capabilities.

For the price, you probably won’t find more stitch options on any other machine.

Many Models are Actually Made by Brother

Speaking of how Baby Lock isn’t a “big” brand, we did want to point out that its machines are sometimes made by a big brand.

Baby Lock is a Japanese company, so, of course, most of its models are made overseas. However, a lot of these models are actually made by the very same company that produces Brother sewing machines.

So, in a way, you may end up getting one of the big brand name sewing machines…but for a lot less money. Of course, it can be hard to tell if your specific machine was made in the Brother factory or not, but the fact that the two brands work together should give you great peace of mind when it comes to quality and value.

Once you have made your selection, you should find it super easy to sew in exactly the way and style that you need.

In fact, the machine does a lot of the work for you based on your chosen setting. So ,as long as you choose correctly, you should have no problem using this machine.

It is a Very Quiet Machine   

If you’ve been sewing for a while, then you probably already know that some sewing machines can be super loud, especially when you get them going at full speed.

The good news is that this one is not loud at all. In fact, its whisper-quiet technology, even when the machine is going at full blast, should really impress you.

The quietness of this machine is great if you have sleeping children in the home, pets who are terrified of the sewing machine sound, or if you are just a noise sensitive person.

With that said though, you should have no problem finding a killer deal on one of these machines.

As you can see, there are plenty of good things about the Baby Lock sewing machine, as well as a few things that could be worked on. However, we hope that, no matter what you decide about this machine, we have given you all of the information that you need to make an informed decision.

Changing Needles Isn’t as Easy as it Could Be

While, as you can see, there are plenty of things to love about this sewing machine, we definitely are not crazy about the fact that changing needles is a bit more difficult than it is with other machines.

It’s not that the overall design is flawed or that there’s something wrong with the needle process the machine takes you through.

Instead, it is just that the machine is a bit cramped in terms of build. It is hard to fit your hands into the needle change area, which also makes it difficult not to fumble and run into problems as you change your needle.

If you have tiny, nimble hands, this issue may not bother you. For most people though, there is a strong need for more “hand room” with this machine.

Some People Report Problems with the Feed Dogs

While, based on our reading of Baby Lock sewing machine reviews, this machine often makes people happy and operates problem free, there are some issues that pop up and are mentioned in the reviews from time to time.

For example, one issue that we have sometimes noticed people mentioning is the fact that the feed dogs may stop working or may start malfunctioning. A big complaint that people tend to have is that they actually stop moving up and down with time.

Fortunately, this machine often comes with a good warranty, depending on where you buy. So, if you do run into an issue with the feed dogs, you can probably get it taken care of free of charge.

Hopefully, you won’t have this problem at all. But, just in case, it’s not a bad idea to make sure your machine comes with the best possible warranty. Thus, in addition to shopping for the best price, also shop for the best warranty.

It Can Sometimes be Hard to Find  

We mentioned earlier that Baby Lock is a relatively new brand. If this doesn’t bother you, something that might is the fact that, since this brand is so new, it can sometimes be hard to find.

You probably won’t find Baby Lock sewing machines at your local department store, and it may even take a bit of scouring online to find one.

We wish that these machines were more widespread and accessible. They definitely aren’t impossible to find, but, if you get your heart set on one, be prepared for a bit of a challenge in locating just the right one.

The Machine is Difficult to Clean

Despite all the good things that we have read in Baby Lock sewing machine reviews, some people do mention that this machine can be really hard to clean.

Apparently, the design is a little bit cramped, which can make it hard to get into tight spaces to wipe off dust or fabric remnants.

Reportedly, some people actually had to take the machine apart, an arduous process, to get it as clean as they wanted.

Hopefully, your machine won’t get so dirty regularly that you have to perform a deep clean often.

But, if you do like things perfect and clean your machine on a regular basis, you might be in for a bit of a challenge with the Baby Lock.

There is No Onboard Stitch Selection Guide  

One issue that some people have with this machine is the fact that there isn’t an onboard stitch selection guide.

This isn’t a big deal for many people, especially if you’re an experienced sewer. If you’re new to sewing, though, or just like a little extra help and guidance, not having this feature may make the sewing process a bit more difficult and confusing for you.
