TRYM II Review: What Happened to the First One?

When it comes to the products you use to shape your swath of facial fuzz, we proud bearded brethren often have a laundry list of expectations. Near the top of the list, it’s reasonable to assume that most men would place words like “pure” and “enriching.” We weren’t at the board meeting where they settled on the company’s name, but we presume the higher ups at Pure Enrichment had concocted similar lists to many of us. Thankfully, they justify the moniker with quality products and avoid the realm of pure hypocrisy.

Pure Enrichment takes a note from the playbook of everyone’s favorite fruit-based electronics company with the Trym II, the second edition of their flagship personal trimmer. It certainly looks the part, with a design that’s equal parts sleek, futuristic, and angular. You can take pride in displaying the charging station atop your bathroom counter without feeling as though you’re cluttering the space, though the exceptional battery life means that the TRYM II won’t be spending as much time in the dock as the competition. So keep them out that all may see—for the mighty blade with which you cleave your errant follicles deserves to be admired rather than shoved in a drawer.

The TRYM II: The Trimmer of Choice for Astronauts, Perhaps?

The Space Age in the palm of your hand, buzzing pleasantly

Solid in hand despite being mainly formed of plastic, the TRYM II proves that a formidable plastic trimmer is not a pipe dream. The motor within is powerful, and the wide blades it powers are capable of reining in your beard with a minimum of strokes. Coming in under par gives you ample time to explore the various attachments bundled with the product, which enable you to curate your style with ease whether the length is long or short. And say goodbye to painful tugging and plucking—with the TRYM II, even the thickest patches are gently coaxed and furtively clipped to ensure the best possible experience for you and your beard.

Just below “pure” and “enriching” on our lists of hopes and dreams for trimmers would be “easy to clean,” and as you might expect Pure Enrichment was thinking the very same thing. You only need take the included cleaning brush to the blades with a few drops of oil every other week to keep it whirring in tip-top shape, and the blades are easily removed for a deep clean when necessary. Maintaining your trimmer can be a chore, but with the TRYM II it’s anything but. We won’t go so far as to say it’s fun, but it’s certainly not bothersome.

As far as downsides are concerned, there were only two that really stuck out to the Beard Pros during testing. First, while the attachments are quite useful, they aren’t much help to you if you’re growing a beard of wizard-like proportions. They are optimized for helping you achieve a clean and short-cropped professional look—which may or may not be what you’re looking for. Second, the wide blades which so splendidly help you shear vast tracts of bearded land in seconds flat make detail work a bit difficult. If your style is specific in any way, you should plan to spend some extra time with scissors or a smaller trimmer in order to tend to the edges.

Final Thoughts on the TRYM II

That said, the TRYM II is a rock solid grooming machine. It certainly packs a punch where it counts, bringing study construction, great battery life, and efficient trimming to bear for you in your tireless quest to command your beard with all the poise of a commodore. Yes, a commodore—have you checked those guys out? They’re kind of badasses. Doing the real work while the admirals sat back and plotted the attack. Worth a trip to Wikipedia to look up Commodore Matthew Perry, if you aren’t familiar with him already.

But we digress. The TRYM II earns our “Buy” vote, and we hope it will bring you as much joy as it has brought us. Until next time, our brothers in bearded arms—may your beard grow thick and full like the great oak.

Stay rugged and manly, friends.
