How does Cremo Cream compare to Dr. Carver’s Shave Butter? – Jay

Well Jay, first of all I do not really like to do comparisons, as I believe each product should be chosen on its own merrit, but after giving your question a good deal of thought, I decided it would be better answered in a post than to get lost in the comment section of another post.

At first my thought was one of “there is no compairison, they are two different types of products…” but in essence, since they do the same thing, they are comparable.

So, before I beg1n my answer (finally…) I want to state that even by comparing the two, my answers are not to be taken as “this one is better than that one.” I believe everyone should make that choice for themselves.

Ok, Jay, since you listed them in this order I will describe each product as I see them.

Comparisons

Cremo Cream:

Cremo Cream is a non-greasy highly concentrated water reactive cream. Sounds pretty technical but it basically means as little as a pea-sized dollop will cover my head and face in enough cream to shave not once but twice by adding a little water to the residual product as I shave.

It also softens the hairs and conditions the skin to the point that I can can shave against the grain on the first pass. This is a big plus to me as many products make it that I have to shave first with the grain, then again against.

One of the things I like about Cremo is that fact that it has a white color so I can see where I have shaved and where I have not.

Dr. Carver’s Shave Butter:

Dr. Carver’s is a non-greasy cream that is a bit thicker than most I have used. It spreads out nicely with the right about of hot water and reactivates well when additional water is applied during the have. I do not get two full shaves of my head and face out of a pea-sized amount, but I am used to that. A second application mixes well the remainder of the first application and some nice hot water.

With Dr. Carver’s, I have to first shave with the grain and then reapply to shave against the grain. Again, this is not a problem to me, I expect it from most shaving products.

Dr. Carver’s has no color so it is difficult for me to keep track of where I have or have not shaved.
