Palette Perfection: Finding your Match

Congratulations!  You’ve found that special someone and are ready to share your commitment and love with the world.  One of the first steps in the wedding planning process is finding your Color Palette or theme. With so many color combinations to choose from though it can be overwhelming, leaving the question of where to start. Luckily, we’ve got some tips to get you started.

Most couples have a few favorite pictures of themselves.  Pull yours out for inspiration and see if there are any common elements in them. It could be you were wearing a burgundy shirt in every one, or they were all taken at the beach. Write down the similarities you find, as well what draws you into the picture.

Do you feel yourself drawn to the pastels and vibrant greens of spring, or the warm earth tones of fall? Broadly sorting colors according to season can help narrow down your options.  The date your big day is taking place is also a factor.  In winter, darker shades and icy hues are popular and tend to go well with the surrounding environment.  However, a palette featuring Charcoal, Gray, and Lavender would probably look out of place in a summer setting.

If you’ve already chosen your venue, take into account the flooring, walls, and landscape. Is the floor carpet or hardwood?  If it’s wood, is it light or dark; or will the carpeting clash with specific colors? For example, a navy and pink color scheme would not work well with green and ivory carpeting. Since, these are elements you can’t remove, you these characteristics to help you fine tune your color choices.

Our final tip could be one of the most important.  Consider your partner’s tastes and interests. Remember, this is a very special day for both of you.  If you’re in love with the color scheme, but your partner hates it, it could very well put a damper on a day that should be filled with love and happiness.

Follow the guidelines above and you’ll be on your way to finding the perfect palette! Don’t forget, outside sources are important, but going with your instinct is key. This is your day and if you love your color palette, other people will too.
