Aspire Gotek X II Review

Aspire’s latest pod system is the Aspire Gotek X II and thanks to Vape Club, we’ve got one here for review!

The Gotek X II follows on from the Gotek Pro, Gotek S and Gotek X – all three of which we have previewed here before!

Aspire are one of the largest names in the industry. Having originally made their name with some classic tanks such as the Nautilus and Cleito. We have recently reviewed some of their latest releases such as the Cyber X and the Veynom LX kit.

What Can We Expect From The Aspire Gotek X II?

The Aspire Gotek X II is a compact, auto-draw pod system designed to offer convenience in a small, user-friendly package. There’s no buttons or screens you simply puff away on the mouthpiece!

It utilises the Aspire ASP chipset to provide a consistent vape from start to finish and to also regulate built in safety protections.

An 800mAh battery is built into the device, to last you through a full day and the Gotek X II recharges via USB-C.

Pods have a 2ml capacity and are side filled.

The Aspire Gotek X II is compatible with the Aspire Gotek series of pods. At the time of writing you have the option of a 0.6ohm and a 0.8ohm pod, with a 0.6ohm pod included in the kit. 1 ohm pods pre-filled with e-liquid are due to hit the market soon!

The pods feature a meshed coil design and in combination with the constant 3.4V output these have been designed to offer a consistent vape.

Aspire state that the Gotek pods are designed to offer enhanced flavour, improved cloud production, long lifespan, fast heating and a reduction in dry hits.

In place of a screen, you have an intuitive LED indicator which indicates current battery level and when safety protections built in.

This kit has been designed with bottom airflow in mind and an airflow slider at the base of the device allows you to adjust the airflow.

There are 9 colour options to choose from: Pastel Blue, Pink, Gunmetal, Cyan, Gold, Silver, Pine Green, Red and Black.

With that in mind, let’s have a deeper look at the Aspire Gotek X II kit!

Many thanks to Vape Club for sending in the Gotek X II for review, as always my views are my own.

Design & Build Quality

Aspire’s Gotek X II sports a futuristic, funky design on its box-shaped housing. It is quite a small little pod system too, sporting measurements of 81.5mm x 47mm x 21.5mm and weighing in at a reasonably lightweight 85g.

The housing is transparent, allowing you to see the internal battery as well as how much e-liquid you have got left in your pod. It looks pretty cool and a bit different from similar pod systems available on the market!

Gotek pods slot in at the top of the device and are held in place firmly with a magnetic connection. I didn’t once have any issue with the pod coming loose and slipping out.

All in all, despite the shape of the kit it was comfortable to hold in hand, though I did feel that this kit felt a bit cheap and plasticky.

Quick Start Guide

How To Fill The Aspire Gotek X II Pod

Before using the Aspire Gotek X II kit for the first time, you’ll want to fill the pod up. Unless you have got the pre-filled 1 ohm pods to hand!

So with the refillable Gotek pod included with the kit, simply:

  • Slide it out of the device and locate the orange bung on the side of the pod.
  • Pop this open to reveal the filling port
  • Insert the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle and fill it up.

Once done, slide the pod back into the device.

If you are filling a fresh pod for the first time, let it sit for five minutes before vaping to allow the e-liquid to fully saturate the cotton!

Charging

As you might have expected, the Gotek X II has a Type-C charging port. You do get a charging cable included which you simply plug into the port at the base of the device.

The maximum charging current is 1A and when fully charged the LED will flash Green 20 times.

Operation

Once you have filled up your pod, you can simply just puff away on this kit, it really is that simple!

There are no settings to adjust on this kit and no screen present. You can adjust the airflow using the slider at the base of the device.

There is an LED light indicator at the base of the device, which will light up and flash to indicate various different protections.

  • 6 second overtime protection – LED light will flash Red and Blue 10 times and the device will switch off.
  • Short circuit protection – LED light will flash Red and Blue three times and power output will be stopped.
  • Low voltage protection – LED light will flash Red 15 times.
  • Overcharge protection – LED light will flash Green 20 times and the device will stop charging
  • Overheat protection – LED light will stay Yellow for three seconds and the device will switch off.
  • Overvoltage protection – device will immediately cease charging.

The LED light also indicates the current battery level: Green means that 60-100% charge remains, Blue means that 30-60% charge remains and Red means that 0-30% charge remains.

How Does The Aspire Gotek X II Perform?

You get a 2ml capacity refillable 0.6ohm Gotek Pod included with the kit, but that is it.

There’s no spare pod included.

0.8ohm Gotek Pods are also available, however I didn’t get to try these out. You can even purchase 1 ohm pods pre-filled with e-liquid, which I believe are shortly coming to UK shores!

Now, this isn’t an absolute ‘flavour monster’ like some of the pod systems I have reviewed recently, but I also do have to bear in mind that this is a sub £15 pod system. Power output is fixed at 3.4V and it is delivered consistently from a full battery to empty.

There’s no adjustable power here though, so this may feel a little underpowered for some vapers!

It offers a very smooth and consistent draw, albeit the flavour is a little muted compared to some of the more expensive pod kits on the market.

Flavour is serviceable enough though for the price and will be good enough for people making the switch to vaping from smoking. I feel that it certainly offers a better vape than a throwaway disposable vape!

I do have to point out that I’ve seen this marketed as offering both a Mouth To Lung (MTL) and Restricted Direct Lung (RDL) hit, but I did find that even with the airflow fully open I couldn’t get a restricted direct lung hit. We tell you what the terms MTL and RDL mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

In my opinion, this is purely a mouth to lung device.

That being said, it does offer a good mouth to lung draw. It fires virtually instantaneously when you take a puff on it and you have a fairly loose mouth to lung draw right down to a cheek-suckingly tight one at your disposal.

I’m quite impressed with the fact that during use, I’ve not had a single drop leak out of the pod. In fact I’ve not even had any condensation build up whatsoever which I would usually expect from most pod systems! That does speak volumes for how well the pods themselves and the airflow has been designed.

Battery life is a plus point with this kit. This has quite easily done me a full day’s use before I’ve needed to pop it on charge. Making it a good option for a cheap kit to take away on a trip or if you are off to a festival for example.

Pros

  • Cheap price point
  • Easy to use pod system
  • Small form factor
  • No leakage from the pod
  • Adjustable airflow
  • The 800mAh in built battery will get you through the day

Cons

  • Flavour is a little lacking
  • Doesn’t really offer a restricted direct lung hit, only mouth to lung
  • Very basic in terms of features
  • Build quality feels a little cheap and plasticky
  • No spare pod in the kit

Final Verdict

The Gotek series of pod systems from Aspire have always aimed to offer a user-friendly experience at a budget price and the Gotek X II continues that trend.

You won’t find adjustable wattage or even a screen on the Gotek series. This is for people that just want a basic mouth to lung pod system that they can fill up and puff away on, without having to adjust any settings. Though having the ability to adjust the airflow is a bonus!

Although I felt that the flavour was a little lacking with this one (then again I have been spoilt this year with the pod systems I have got to use!). It doesn’t really offer a restricted direct lung hit, I’d say that a device like the Gotek II is a good choice for someone looking to switch over from throwaway disposable vapes to a pod system.

It has been priced very competitively and is a decent enough kit at the price point it is available for.

You can’t really get an easier kit pod system to use, it’s simple to fill up, the pods just slide right in and you just puff and go!
