Wismec Reuleaux RX200S Review

Wismec Reuleaux RX200S Introduction

The Wismec Reuleaux RX200S is a collaboration between JayBo and Wismec, and the follow-up to the RX200 that was one of the first mainstream mods to have a triple 18650 Battery layout, to provide true powerful performance.

The RX200S is pretty much the same mod as the RX200 apart from an increased screen size and new color.

It supports Ni200, Titanium and Stainless Steel wires in Temperature Control, and is capable of outputting a huge 200w! It has Wismec’s own in-house chip which also is firmware upgradeable, allowing you to take advantage of firmware updates.

Design & Build Quality

Without a doubt, the Wismec RX200 mods are one of the most uniquely shaped units you are likely to see or hold, a hexagonal shape designed to fit ergonomically in the palm of your hand.

The 510 connector at the top is spring loaded with a gold plated connector pin for durability and conductivity.

Make no bones about it, it is a big unit but surprisingly it is still smaller than you would think, it definitely has some weight to it though!

It is constructed of a combined zinc alloy and stainless steel construction. The build quality is excellent.

At the rear of the unit is a removable magnetic battery door cover, that gives you access to the battery compartment where you need to insert three 18650 Batteries in a series configuration.

A battery ribbon is present allowing for easy removal of batteries, and like the 510 connector pin the contacts here are gold plated. Underneath the unit are battery vent holes.

The OLED screen is a huge improvement over the RX200 resulting in a larger, clearer screen for a better user experience. The display features the current power output, Temperature (if in temperature control), battery level, resistance and voltage output.

The power, and up and down buttons are also located at the front of the unit, although responsive I did find these to be very clicky.

On the RX200 my power button very occasionally got stuck, which isn’t ideal, with the RX200S this wasn’t a problem.

The face plate can also be removed to change color options. Although at the time of writing these weren’t available. I’m sure Wismec will release these in time, however.

At the front is a micro USB port which can be used the charge the device as well as upgrade the firmware.

By clicking the fire button 10 times from the off position to see what the temperature of the board is. 20 clicks to see what the latest firmware version is and holding plus/minus button (while mod is off) to flip screen vertically.

Wismec RX200 Vs RX200S – What’s The Difference?

  • RX200s has increased temp from 300˚C to 315˚C
  • RX200S screen increased from 0.69 inches to 0.96 inches
  • RX200S has one color option – the RX200 has 4
  • RX200S power output 200W – RX200 can be upgraded to 250W with firmware upgrade

How Does The Wismec RX200S Perform?

One of the most interesting features about the Wismec RX200S is that it is one of the first mainstream units to require the usage of three 18650 batteries in series configuration.

These are housed at the rear of the unit behind the removable magnetic battery cover.

Do make sure you use batteries from a trusted supplier that are capable of handling a 25A continuous discharge current.

The benefit of the battery configuration is that power output is consistent and accurate, but as the batteries are in series rather than parallel, there is no benefit to battery life, which is actually quite short when using at high power, and more in line with most of the popular dual 18650 battery mods available.

Most people do not have access to a four bay battery charger capable of equally charging three batteries at the same rate, so you do need to keep a close eye on the voltage levels of each battery before inserting them into your RX200S device, making sure each is at 4.2V.

I would recommend that you also swap each batteries position in the RX200S to reduce battery stress, as it does place an unequal load on each battery causing them to discharge unevenly.

You can charge via USB, however, you do so at your own risk and need to ensure you do so from a safe power source, I have seen a lot of people online state that the RX200S has on board balance charging, however it does not charge your batteries at an equal rate I have found.

Just play it safe and buy either a 4 port charger or an additional 2 port charger if you already have one. Nitecore and Xtar are trusted and recommended brands.

Power Delivery

Power delivery is excellent, however. You really do notice it at higher power, and how much more powerful it is than certain other units that purport to output 200w.

I did find that using the device at high power as described above does restrict the battery life substantially, at 60w+ I didn’t even get a full day out of the device despite using three new batteries.

Temperature Control

Temperature Control with the RX200S supports Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel, the three most popular temperature control wires.

To get the RX200S into temperature control, you need to click the power button three times then cycle through the different settings with the up and down buttons.

You need to select the setting that matches the temperature control coil you are using, then at room temperature lock in the power by holding the up and power button.

For the most part, it worked great with an Ni200 coil in my Aspire Triton 2, with relatively stable performance and good dry hit protection.

Where it didn’t work great was when I used Titanium and Stainless Steel coils.

With both of these, I had to set the temperature at the 600F max most of the time to get even a half decent vape out of it, and I never got anything even closely resembling a warm vape from either.

I tried numerous different Titanium and Stainless Steel coils, but got the same results. Dry hit protection was very unreliable and the resistance seemed to wobble even with the resistance locked in with both coils.

Overall, I was impressed with the power performance of the Wismec RX200S but let down by the temperature control experience.

What I Liked

The Wismec Reuleaux RX200S just feels more powerful than other 200w mods. I didn’t need to set the power as high as I do with other 200w units to get a real powerful performance, and you really notice it when going over 100w.

It’s a really well-made device. You know from holding this thing that it is rock solid and built to last.

Firmware is upgradeable.

What I Didn’t Like

Temperature Control was a bit of a let down for me. The performance was unsteady and unreliable, which is not ideal when using TC.

The batteries are in series so you don’t really get any additional benefit in battery life over dual 18650 mods. The batteries seem to drain as quickly as these devices.

It’s a pretty heavy unit, weighty too, and the size isn’t going to be to everyone’s tastes!

Final Wismec RX200S Review Verdict

As a straightforward variable wattage power mod, the RX200S is a great device, offering very powerful performance and true 200w power from the three 18650 batteries powering it.

If you are a high power vaper this is a really good vape mod option to look at, especially as it supports very low resistance coils as well.

It does, however, fall a little flat in the temperature control department, with inconsistent performance especially when using Titanium and Stainless Steel wires.

I would still recommend the RX200S, as it offers a lot of power for your money.

The build quality is great too as well as the new screen. I do really like the way this feels in my hand and you know this is a device that will survive most things daily usage can throw at it. You will struggle to pick anything up this solid for the money!

The Good

  • Fantastic OLED screen
  • Accurate power output
  • Very powerful unit
  • Three most popular wire types supported in temperature control
  • Easy to adjust settings
  • Very well constructed
  • Despite the size, it is actually comfortable to hold in hand
  • Upgradable firmware

The Not so Good

  • Charges and discharges batteries unevenly via USB
  • Short battery life at high power usage
  • Unstable temperature control especially with Stainless Steel
  • Heavy and weighty unit
  • Clicky buttons
  • Definitely not one for beginners
