Aspire PockeX Box Review – Side By Side Starter Kit

The new Aspire Pockex Box review and this is the third vape kit carrying the name, but with a few alterations to say the least!

As you can see, this is a side-by-side rendition, with a couple of tweaks to the tank as we’ll see later on.

I’ve been fortunate enough to review both of the original Aspire Pockex kits, the original Pockex AIO back in 2018, and the recently released Aspire PockeX Anniversary Edition.

I scored both reasonably high, and indeed, they have become hugely popular with new vapers despite me not rating the flavour that highly…as I always say – what the hell do I know lol.

Aspire has been in overdrive this past few months with new and impressive releases week in week out.

The new Aspire Pockex Box is another of those popular side-by-side designs following in the footsteps of the impressive MIXX and BOXX – however unlike that dynamic duo, this one is as simple as vaping gets.

What Can We Expect From the Aspire PockeX Box?

Simplicity is key here.

The original pair are both dead simple to use and great for brand new vapers.

The Aspire PockeX Box is definitely following the same route with easy fill and coil swap.

There’s no menu to worry about and the chip recognizes your chosen coil wattage and sets it automatically – easy!

It’s powered by an impressively large 2000mAH battery and is fast charging meaning plenty of vape time.

So let’s take a look to see if the Aspire PockeX Box is worthy of the hugely popular name.

For the record this was sent to me by the kind folk over at UK Aspire Vendor – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies.

Aspire PockeX Box Key Features

As I’ll probably mention a lot in this review, the Aspire PockeX Box is essentially the PockeX pen style vape kit but in a different format/design.

It’s powered by a rather large 2000mAh internal battery and there’s no menu to worry about – pop in your coil, and the chip takes care of the wattage – easy!

The original PockeX came with x2 0.6ohm coils – the Aspire PockeX Box comes with just one – plus a 1.2ohm and all Pockex coils are cross compatible.

Apart from the smart side-by-side design, this version features an adjustable airflow which will of course let you fine tune your vape.

The tank is attached to the battery section and the acrylic tube can removed for cleaning. After taking it on and off a few times, the o-rings are tight, and of course the coil and tank screws into the mod so it won’t be going anywhere.

It’s a simple top fill design and I’ll talk more about that a little later.

Design and Build Quality

Side-by-side styled mods have made a bit of comeback this year with Aspire releasing some absolute crackers as you’ll have seen from above.

I guess you’re either a fan of them or not – I kind of like them – and certainly prefer them to pen styled vape kits.

So yeah, and stating the obvious, the Aspire PockeX Box is a side by side design with a bit of AIO chucked in.

It’s quite a heavy little thing – I’m guessing that’s the generous 2000mAH battery.

The body of the mod is made from toughened plastic with a very nice grippy pimpled surface – nice feel to it.

The tank has a different look to the original PockeX’s – this one of course having and AFC ring and it’s clear rather than caged.

The fire button is sited quite high up but is comfortable for thumb firers – those that prefer the finger might need to fiddle about a bit…ooer!

The fire button is a tiny bit rattly but has a decent enough throw to it – certainly not spongy.

So a solidly built little kit that has some weight to it with all the moving parts doing their jobs nicely.

I’ve had this for about a week and my only issue at the moment is the AFC ring is a little stiff – hopefully that will loosen up a little over time – it certainly means it stays put in your pocket or bag!

How Does the Aspire PockeX Box Perform?

Just like the previous renditions of this popular vape kit, the Aspire PockeX Box is about as simple as vaping gets.

The only things you really need to do is swap out the coils when needed – alter the airflow to suit and fill it up and vape – easy!

Both of those actions are easy peasy making this ideal for a brand new vaper.

The key here I guess is what style of vaping are you after – and as always this will be down to the coils you use.

The included PockeX 1.2 ohm U-Tech Coil is designed for MTL vaping – a tighter vape especially using the airflow.

Whilst the 0.6ohm is designed for DTL – as in airier – however the airflow can tighten that up to a restricted direct lung hit.

So let’s take a quick look and see if that is indeed the case:

Aspire PockeX Box 0.6ohm Coil

I have a feeling the world and his uncle has used this coil at some point!

Aspire states this is best between 18/20w however given you can’t change the wattage it’s a bit irrelevant on this kit.

As expected the flavour is pretty good – OK – slightly better than pretty good.

I still don’t think it matches my go to Aspire Nautilus coils – but still a decent taste – decent vapour too.

I found even with the airflow wide open, this is a rather tight vape.

With 10 being very airy this is 6 to 7 – so expect a very restricted direct lung hit.

Aspire PockeX Box 1.2ohm Coil

I used the same coil in my review of the Aspire PockeX Anniversary Edition so have a bit of a benchmark to work from.

Once again this coil seems to take 3 to 4 fills to kick into life – flavour wise that is – so stick with it!

In this acrylic tank this coil still falls a little short on flavour – it’s OK – just not popping the juice that much.

And trust me almost closed off the airflow and this coil gives a really tight vape – out of 10 with ten being loose this one’s an easy 5 to 6.

Even wide open it’s still a very tight vape – proper MTL as we say

Pros

  • Dead simple to use
  • Amazing battery longevity
  • Choice of coils + vape styles
  • Decent flavour
  • Fast charging
  • Tough smart design

Cons

  • AFC ring very stiff [still]

Final Review Verdict

The Aspire Pockex duo of vape kits have proved extremely popular, especially with smokers looking for an easy first device.

In fact my long time smoker sister packed up using the one I gave her, and now uses the Anniversary edition.

The Aspire PockeX Box will probably be going to her too, and not because I don’t like it – I just don’t have a use for it.

You’d have to prise the Aspire Nautilus Prime X out of my cold dead hands – and there’s my issue with the Aspire PockeX kits.

It boils down to the flavour off those U-Tech coils for me.

I just don’t think they’re on a par with the Nautilus ones – it’s that simple.

However, for brand new or intermediate vapers, I’ve noticed many swear by them and I reckon that could be down to taste buds still subdued due to smoking.

In other words they’re getting decent flavour – only later when trying other Aspire coils will they realize the difference.

Hope that makes sense lol.

Box or Pen..?

It’s also down to style preference – go for the traditional pen or this new side-by-side box – the choice is yours.

I reckon the Aspire PockeX Box is a great little starter kit and if you enjoy the U-Tech coils then I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Have you used any of the Aspire PockeX kits?

Do you LOVE the flavour..?

Is this one you’re going to add to your collection?
