Well look what we have here, the new Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 kit!

And for those not fully aware of the importance, or in fact magnitude of what we’re looking at here, please let me describe my personal history with the original Geekvape Aegis Legend.

Back when I started vaping, I very quickly got away from small, simple MTL devices and into Direct Lung, cloud chucking kits.

For a fair while, devices like the Eleaf iStick Power sat in my tool box getting beaten up every day with very little care but holding a lot of importance to me not smoking.

Fast forward a year or so, approximately 5 dual battery mods later due to day to day abuse being on building sites etc etc, and I finally came across the Geekvape Aegis device.

A single 26650 device that took a serious beating before I came across the dual battery version…

A device which has become true to it name – A Legend.

If it wasn’t for the Legend device, I’m not sure if my wallet, or my wife for that matter, would allow me to vape anymore.

Mods aren’t cheap when you’re a young man with a young family and one income.

I truly couldn’t afford spending £50+ every month or so and the cheaper mods just didn’t have what it takes to be a long-term device you can rely on.

I’m not the only one to truly ‘Love’ the Legend. Its still for sale now, a few years since it was first released and still goes for top money. That’s how decent the original was, and still is.

So this is a big one for me and I’m pleased its actually been this long since the original was released – A lot has changed in the vape game, mostly on a technology level with the use of Mesh coils and USB Type C charging.

Is the new L200 Aegis Legend 2 kit just a simple upgrade from the original, or a complete overhaul?

What Can We Expect From the Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Kit?

I’m one of the lucky boys to get the sample packaging from Geekvape, which is always very nice and much appreciated – unfortunately I cant show you what the retail packaging will look like, but I’m sure it’ll be to a high Geekvape standard.

The Aegis Legend 2 (L200) kit comes complete with the Zeus Z tank, 2 coils, spares and of course the new L200 device.

The 2 mesh coils for the Z tank are low resistance and the Z tank itself has top adjustable airflow.

The L200 Legend 2 device keeps the original IP68 rating, meaning it should be able to take a beating, it also keeps the original shape and style to an extent but with a few aesthetic changes and upgrades including less rubber, a USB-C port in a new position and a clever locking switch.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Colours

The L200 kit is made super matchy matchy with matching colour tanks to suit the Legend 2 mod.

However there is no Red tank to match the red mod, but there is a Rainbow…

Design and Build Quality

I received the Silver variant of the L200 mod which came with the Silver Z Tank.

At a glance, the L200 mod in Silver is a bit too flashy for me but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the finish.

The balance of colours is very well thought out with the silver variant.

The slightly brushed yet polished silver on the trademark Sub-frame, followed by a darker satin silver finish on the body and the grey rubber match really well.

Added to that is the signature plastic leather feeling surround in a light grey and an odd bit of white stitching.

Nonetheless, regardless of my personal opinions on this colour variant, the quality is very good and like I’ve said, I’m impressed with the contrast of silver and grey’s on this variant.

The Z Tank

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Drip Tip and Top Cap

The 810 fitment allows you to make use of your own 810 ‘Goon’ style drip tips and most of mine have fit quite snug. Especially my hand-made Vape Smarter resin tip.

The Top-Cap is nicely knurled allowing for decent grip when turning the top-cap anti clockwise 90 degrees to open up the filling port.

Top Fill Port

As much as I quite like the newer style of a silicon cover which limits leaking if you happen to drop the tank with the top-cap off – I still prefer open holes. And that’s what you get with the Z Tank.

Two nicely sized filling ports and cleverly you could just pour your e-liquid anywhere in the port and the grooves internally will force the e-liquid to filter down into the tank.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Airflow Control

The Geekvape Z Tank features a top-airflow system which basically means you have a double skinned chamber allowing the air to travel from the top, around the outside of the chamber and enter he coils from underneath.

The airflow control ring is removable for cleaning and slides nice and freely from all the way open to all the way closed with a stopper to stop the ring spinning 360 degrees.

There are two large airflow inlets on either side of the tank.

The Base

The 510 threaded base also includes the usual Kite marks along with some simple Geekvape branding and information.

DO NOT USE THIS TANK ON A MECHANICAL MOD.

Tank – Overall:

Overall the build quality of the Z tank is very good.

Its in keeping with Geekvape’s previous Zeus tanks.

The threading and fitment is very good along with good seals thanks to the O-rings.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 the L200 Mod

510 Connector

The 510 connected is situated kind of central, but kind of not – it depends how you look at it.

The connector itself doesn’t have the usual 20mm or 25mm ring/washer around it, but is fixed within a larger brushed silver base.

Looks very clean and there is also a very nice spring to it meaning I’ve had no problem with atomizers fitting flat on-top with no gap.

With regards to atomizer fitment, as much as the 26mm Z tank fits OK, there is still a weird overhang due to the shape of the device.

It’s not necessarily actual overhang but the curvature of the top of the L200 device makes it look a little like that.

If you’re planning to use your own atomizers on the Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 mod, 25mm would be optimal in my opinion.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 USB-C Port

Just as the top of the device starts to curve down onto the display pane of the device, a rubber feeling flap can be listed to access the USB Type-C port for firmware and charging.

I really like the new location of the USB port.

However, I have my concerns that after the silicon cover has been opened and closed 100 times, it may possibly break off? Only time will tell.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 – Front of the Device

Geekvape keep the ‘Ski-Slope’ style fire button which the original was partially known for but the chipset, display and the adjustment buttons have been changed slightly.

Geekvape has added a colour display which is fairly bright and very clear, but still very simple much like the original Aegis Legend.

In direct sunlight, or perhaps even on a fairly bright day I find the display a little dim, even when on 100% brightness.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 the Battery Door

Again in keeping with the original, the style of the L200 battery door is very similar including the internal rubber seal to keep the IP68 rating intact.

The slider to open the battery door has nice grooves in it, making it easy to release and the springs and hinge on the door are strong with no side to side wobble.

Inside the battery housing are your Positive and Negative markings for correct polarity.

Locking Switch

Geekvape has added a lock switch which is cleverly placed just below the ‘Aegis’ text on the sub-frame.

Sliding the switch down will lock all the buttons which means there’s no need to click the fire button 5 times to shut down the device every time.

It’s a habit of mine to always switch the device off when I’m done vaping for a while, but with this option, I no longer need to click that fire button so often.

The locking switch is a great idea, however I feel like they may have got the switch the wrong way round…

If you were to lock the device via the switch (sliding switch down) and then slide the L200 device into your pocket – there is a chance that the locking switch will slide back up leaving your fire button active again! Why did they make the switch operate in that way?

Don’t get me wrong the switch itself has a nice resistance and grooves in it to making sliding easy, but not too easy and it clicks nicely into each position along with not being a raised surface.

But its still possible you could unlock the device whilst sliding it into a tight pocket.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Externals

The general shape is very similar to the original with only minor changes, the new Legend is however slightly smaller than the original but they have now included a locking switch.

Rather than pressing the fire button 3 times or having to do some weird button sequence, all you need to do to lock all the buttons is push the small slider up to lock and down to unlock.

I really like this feature. Its simple, works well and doesn’t slide open or shut by itself.

The Mod – Overall:

I’m pleased with what Geekvape have done with the new Legend.

They’ve kept the general style of the original but taken it into 2021.

The only thing I’m not so sure about is the fact the rubber coating that covered the majority of the original, is now only limited to the top and bottom of the device meaning in essence there is less protection from accidental drops and falls.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 In the Hand

Personally, I feel the L200 mod is designed as a thumb firer with your fingers wrapped around the leather surround.

Being ever so slightly smaller than its predecessor means the device fits a bit better in the hand.

As much as its lacking its rubber coating of the original, its still nice and comfortable to hold and use.

The ‘Ski-Slope’ style fire button is really another signature design from the Aegis device and I’m pleased they’ve stuck with it.

When thumb firing, the ski-slope fire button is ideal and very comfortable to fire.

Obviously this is a dual 18650 device so that alone adds some weight, but the device itself isn’t too heavy but will certainly be noticed in your pocket.

How Does the GeekVape Legend 2 Kit Perform?

With an upgraded chipset and colour display, Geekvape have made a few tweaks to the menu and functions.

Basic Operation

• Current Output

GeekVape Legend 2 Menu

There are a small number of button sequences to remember to operate this device:

• 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
• 3 clicks of the fire button will allow you to scroll through Output modes
• Once in Output adjustment mode, you can scroll down to adjust coil resistance and reset puff count by pressing the fire button
• Press and Hold Fire & + button – Brightness Up
• Press and Hold Fie & – button – Brightness Down

The Output modes include Variable Wattage, Temperature Control for Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel wire.

There is also a curves option and Bypass mode which effectively allows the device to act like a Mechanical Mod however there is still safety protection there.

How To Fill the GeekVape Z Tank

• Turn the Top-Cap 90 degrees Clockwise
• Fil with your desired e-liquid
• Re-ft the Top-Cap

The top-cap can be a little stiff to remove, I find holding the tank base with one hand, and turning the top-cap with my other is the best way.

Trying to take off the top-cap with one hand is difficult as you may find you turn the entire tank.

One final thing, If you get the TPD version of the Z tank without the 5.5ml bubble glass – be sure to pick one up.

The coils don’t drink e-liquid too much, but the drink enough to see a 2ml drain down in a matter of minutes if you’re not careful.

The GeekVape Z Coils

The Geekvape Z tank comes with two mesh coils.

A single mesh coil that comes out at approx 0.2Ω and is recommended between 70 and 80 watts and the dual mesh Z coil is rated at 0.25Ω but in my time, listed at 0.27Ω on the device.

The Z coils themselves are push-fit but have to be installed a certain way thanks to the small wings on either side of the bases of the coils.

The coils are also quite stumpy and short for what I would say are quite low resistance coils.

GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 – Flavour & Clouds

For the duration of my testing, I was vaping on high VG e-liquids.

Mostly Code Red by Darkstar that I mix to 80VG 20PG.

The 0.2Ω Z Mesh Coil (70-80w)

The 0.2Ω coil is more diverse than the 70-80 watts recommended by Geekvape.

I found the experience quite good at around 60 watts but after a while I crept up to 75 watts and it performs very well.

First of all for flavour, the coil performs very well.

Pulling out the sweet notes of my e-liquids along with being a nice saturated vape.

With regards to vapour production, its not quite as crazy with the clouds as you would expect but still a slightly warm thick vape.

The actual experience however does feel different due to this being a top-airflow Sub-Ohm tank.

The airflow is smooth and is fairly quiet, but it feels different to a normal bottom airflow tank, I could only describe it as when you’re breathing through a mask.

It’s a slightly restrictive direct-lung vape with the AFC wide open, but it feels more restrictive than it actually is due to the airflow configuration.

The 0.25Ω Z Mesh Coil (45-57w)

Due to this being a dual mesh coil, you can expect more airflow restriction than with the single mesh Z coil and that’s exactly what you get.

At 57 watts I’ve enjoyed it most and although the flavour for me isn’t quite as good as the single 0.2Ω Z coil, its still decent, and a nice cloud.

At that set wattage, its a Luke-warm vape with a nice cloud and enough flavour to be enjoyed. But still with that wishy washy airflow feeling.

GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 – Airflow

I really wasn’t expecting the airflow to feel the way it does.

I understand this is a top airflow sub-ohm tank but I’m surprised just how it feels when vaping.

It’s not an uncomfortable vape, its extremely smooth for sure but there is an odd chamber effect due to the travel of the airflow from the top to under the coil.

If you like a very open Direct-Lung draw with plenty of air, this tank wont tick all your boxes.

GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 Durability

Just to be clear – Hell no I’m not going to try and destroy this device.

Firstly because I’ve done it before with other mods and instantly regret it but second of all because I genuinely don’t think the newest version of the Aegis Legend is quite as durable as the original.

Don’t get me wrong, its still a solid feeling bit of kit with all the right rating and design to last a handful of drops along with being submerged in water.

But the lack of that rubber coating around the complete device means the new L200 device will simply not last quite as well.

The GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 device is still built extremely well and I’m sure it’ll  last very well over time, BUT – It appears at least like Geekvape have tried to smarten the kit up aesthetically which may have affected its durability.

GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 Battery Life & Charging

Geekvape has finally jumped into the USB-C world and have very cleverly hidden the USB Type-C port on the Aegis Legend 2.

Hidden under a rubber slap near the top of the device means you wouldn’t know its there without fiddling around with the rubber.

The device itself offers a 2 Amp charge which is excellent however I will always recommend charging your batteries externally.

The device can also deliver Pass-thru charging which means you can still vape on the device whilst its charging.

Oddly enough – the GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 doesn’t come with the battery balancing technology that Geekvape made available for the Aegis X!

With regards to battery life – the GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 performs well as any other dual 18650 device.

I’ve noticed no increased battery drain caused by the display brightness over other dual battery devices, of course battery life always depends on your vaping style, wattage and usage.

• Display seems dim when outdoors
• Locking switch is the wrong way round
• The USB port cover may snap after continued use.

• Airflow feels a little wishy washy
• Perhaps a little over-branded

What could be improved?

• Bring back the full rubber coating
• Brighten the Display
• Turn the locking switch the other way round
• Ability to change display colours
• Dual 21700 may have been preferable for some

Tank

• Allow a little more airflow
• A slide-to-fill top-cap may be preferred by some?

Final Review Verdict

Right at the start of this write up, I asked:

Is the new L200 Aegis Legend 2 kit just a simple upgrade from the original, or a complete overhaul?

The answer is kind of in the middle.

Putting the Z Tank to one side for a moment, the GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 device is certainly a modern equivalent of the original legend which in one way makes it an improvement but on the other hand the device has lost its super durability due to the lack of the rubber coating.

I really really liked that feature with the original GeekVape Aegis Legend, its what made the device last so well.

Removing the complete surround and just sticking it on the top and bottom kind of removes a lot of the protection, leaving this device more vulnerable to damage.

The new GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 is still very durable and well made however, it’ll certainly survive the odd drop and fall no problem, its just not quite as tough.

Looks wise however – I really like what they’ve done.

Moving the USB port to a new hidden position, a locking slider along with a colour display whilst keeping the same style fire button means you will know you’re using an Aegis Legend.

The GeekVape Z tank is also very good, its on the large side of Sub-Ohm tanks for sure but being a Geekvape product I’m sure coil availability isn’t going to be a problem.

Personally I find the airflow a little odd – I cant quite put my finger on it but there is a weird chamber effect to it which just feels weird, even though the vape experience is smooth with good flavour.

So the 3 big questions I ask when testing a product are:

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

Of course you have to take into account the 5.5ml bubble glass could easily break so dont expect that to be covered in any kind of warranty.

As much as it’s a shame the Aegis Legend 2 doesn’t have the same rubber coating, its still a solid device with a lot of protective features so I have no doubt this device will last into 2022 with a little care.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

The Z tank performs well.

Not the best in my opinion and personally not to my vaping style but the flavour is nice and crisp.

As much as I’m not a fan of the feeling to the airflow, the vape experience is smooth and not too loud which is always a bonus for a low resistance sub-ohm tank.

Is the Geekvape L200 Kit  versatile enough to suit a new and experienced vapers?

If you’ve been vaping on disposables, small pod systems and AIO’s and you’ve started to have an interest in Direct Lung vaping – the Z tank may be a bit much to start off with but dont let that put you off from considering this kit.

The Aegis Legend 2 kit will most likely be around the £50-£70 mark which may be a little steep for your first Direct-Lung high powered kit.

However if you’re anything like me and you find you’re destroying more devices than e-liquid – consider the GeekVape Aegis Legend 2.

If the new version of the Legend is going to be anything like the original – you’ll see this device still being used and enjoyed daily 3-4 years from now. Fingers crossed anyway.
