Always good to see vaping starter kits that aren’t pod mods so how does the Univapo Unix C beginners vape kit stack up?

Univapo is a company I’d never actually heard of but it does seem to have a decent catalogue of vape set-ups.

It currently has a x3 tanks – a couple of pod mods and 3 basic starter kits – the Unico looks quite smart if a little familiar design wise.

So given this is a relatively little known company, it will be interesting to see how this particular starter kit performs.

What Can We Expect From the Univapo Unix C Vape Starter Kit?

First impressions and the Univapo Unix C is very old school with a clearomizer on top of a battery.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it could be the case here – we shall see.

It’s a top fill design with adjustable bottom airflow and the x3 coils [one mesh] offer MTL and restricted DTL vape styles.

There’s an internal 1000mAH battery with Type C charging and there’s x3 colours to choose from.

I’ll being using the word retro throughout this review and trust me in my eye it’s a good word to be using.

Key Features

For such a small device, the Univapo Unix C has a lot packed in.

It’s powered by a 1000mAH internal battery and there’s fast Type C charging.

For a start there’s a choice of x3 different coils: 1.2ohm mesh – and a 1.3 and 1.6 ohm regular coil.

Incidentally, it’s the latter found inside the box – all coil types can be bought separately in boxes of 5.

All three can be used for either a restricted DTL vape or a regular tighter MTL vape.

Univapo says its engineers have tested up to 10,000 different combinations of coil materials – wire and cotton – to ensure the best possible flavour from your chosen e-liquid – something we shall of course be looking at.

It’s a 2ml capacity tank with a swivel top filling design that also doubles as a child lock – indeed the company says this is the world’s first dual child lock vape kit.

There’s also a bottom child lock feature and Univapo has gone to great lengths ensuring it’s safety first, especially where kids are concerned.

The spinning fire button also doubles up as the wattage control and there’s a magnetic dust cap keeping all the gunk out of your tank.

It’s a bottom airflow system with two cyclops style slots either side and we shall of course see just how much control you will have.

The Univapo Unix C vape kit is currently available in x3 colours: Black – Silver and Red.

Design and Build Quality

Made from tough yet light as a feather aluminum alloy, it feels reasonably comfortable in the hand.

I say ‘reasonably’ as it does feel a little top heavy – the tank being around 2/3rds of the size of the battery and a tad heavier in my mind.

The top fill control is a little sticky for want of a better word, whilst the bottom airflow is much looser.

It hasn’t moved in my pocket but it can only get looser as time goes by.

The swivel fire button is a little crunchy to turn and dare I say feels a little flimsy…nice click to it though and does the job it’s designed for.

Dust Cap

Always a nice touch – nobody likes gunk in your mouth.

Univapo says given this is magnetized it can be taken off and stuck to the base of the battery whilst vaping.

Sadly the magnets are not that strong and even a gnat flying by knocks it off.

So unless you’re careful expect to lose it as I have done a couple of times lol.

Dual Child Lock

The dual child lock feature had me stumped for a wee while – me child like? Naw lol…

If I’m honest – I’m still a little unsure – it seems pressing the base of the tank until it clicks locks the fill port…

The instructions aren’t very clear…

You need to click the fire button x3 to lock and unlock the device and it locks automatically after 3 minutes of no use – as good a child lock feature as any I guess.

Design – A Little Dated?

Univapo is calling the tank a clearomizer which already suggests retro vaping to me.

The battery reminds me very much of one of my go to MTL vape kits – the Innokin EZ Watt.

Look, I’m not saying an outdated design is bad per se – it’s just had the Univapo Unix C been around a couple of years ago the design would fit in nicely – now it just feels a bit retro.

Anyway, let’s see how this one performs…

But first a quick run down on how to operate it:

How Does the Univapo Unix C Perform?

Mine came with the 1.6ohm coil already inserted and despite the contents saying otherwise, there was a spare in the box the 1.3ohm – both regular wire.

You can buy the 1.2ohm mesh coil separately and sadly I didn’t get a box of those to test.

BTW to swap the coils you need to press the base of the tank up and unscrew before screwing the fresh coil in – very old school.

OK – let’s go through the three available coils used in the Univapo Unix C vape kit.

I used Sorbet from the delicious Pachamama Nicotine Salts range – a flavour that’s about as addictive as it can get!!!

Univapo Unix C 1.6ohm Regular Coil Best 7-12w

Filling is very easy and being a clearomizer there’s no issue with seeing how much juice is in your tank.

I let the coil soak up the e-liquid for a good 10 minutes – known as priming your coil – this makes sure all the cotton is saturated.

I began at 7w and the airflow half open – the flavour was OK though as you might expect the vape was pretty cool temp wise.

I found my sweet spot at slightly over the recommended at 13w with the flavour coming through reasonably well and closing off the airflow slightly increased the taste somewhat.

I’d say this coil offers a decent MTL vape obviously tighter the more you shut off the air.

Univapo Unix C 1.3ohm Regular Coil Best 9-16w

At 9w again the flavour was merely OK though it upped slightly the less air I let in.

The top end of 16w saw a real jump in flavour even with the airflow half open and it was a warmer vape too.

Wide open and whilst there was a noticeable drop in flavour I was able to get a decent restricted lung hit with some decent clouds if that’s your thing.

My sweet spot was airflow a third open at 17w where I seemed to eke out a bit more flavour and warmth.

Univapo Unix C Airflow

Just a quick word on this…

The AFC ring is a little on the loose side when spinning, but there is a palpable difference in closed off and wide open.

Closed right down and this is an extremely tight vape – ideal for MTL vapers and especially for those coming off lit tobacco.

Wide open and this is very airy – way up there in the mid 8’s if 10 is as airy as it gets.

A lot of starter vape kits try for the MTL DTL option of one coil – not many are as successful as the Univapo Unix C.

Definitely one to grow with your vaping style.

Final Review Verdict

I’m a little torn on this one if I’m brutally honest – which I try to be.

I’ve called it a ‘retro design’ – so is that a nice way of saying the Univapo Unix C is a little shall we say dated?

Let’s just say a couple of years ago and pre-pods it would have stood out as a very good vaping starter kit.

With the mesh coil I’d expect it to perform much better, pity I wasn’t able to try one.

Again I go back to – the whole thing is all very and I mean very old school.

Take the screwing and unscrewing of the coils – very dated indeed in this day and age of push and pull pod systems I’m afraid.

I guess this one is going to be about the design – if you like it go for it as it does the job it’s designed for.

However and despite being a dinosaur myself, it’s all a bit yesterday for me.

However, do take a look at the other Univapo vape kits – some of the newer pod mods look very cool indeed.
