Switch To Vaping And Save Money and Your Life

As more smokers stub out the stinkies and enjoy the health benefits of vaping, the cost to Big Tobacco in the UK alone is around £1billion per year in lost sales.

The numbers were crunched by OnePoll on behalf of the UK Vaping Industry Association [UKVIA] – the group behind this year’s #Vapril campaign. The results show that on average UK smokers save £346.32 per year once they quit and move to e-cigarettes.

So with well over 3.5 million ex smokers in the UK alone [and rising] – you can see why the tobacco companies are worried and moving in on the e-cigarette market.

OnePoll surveyed 1,790 people with a mix of those who have quit and those planning to quit and found that more than half had quit smoking for financial reasons. A third said they’d quit for better teeth, to breathe and to smell better.

A whopping 8 out of 10 said they would definitely recommend vaping to folks looking to quit, whilst almost a quarter said they felt more comfortable socially with one in five saying they were now more acceptable to friends compared to when they were smoking!

The other good news is we as vapers are most definitely advocates and vaping ambassadors, with the research showing over 40% of us have convinced smokers to make the switch to vaping. And there was excellent news for the UKVIA with the survey showing 7 out of 10 smokers had made the switch thanks to #Vapril!

UKVIA boss John Dunne said:

The research highlights there are so many life-changing benefits to switching to vaping, more than just our health, from money to enjoying family time.

It also highlights just how much of a financial effect giving up smoking has on an individual.

It’s impactful on someone’s appearance as it helps them feel less conscious about their smell, teeth and skin.

Our VApril campaign wants to emphasize the best things about making the change from cigarettes to vaping and help smokers quit for good.

I’m sure some of you more established vapers out there have a wry smile on your face given the amount we spend on vape gear! Truth be told the vast majority of vapers aren’t into it for that new shiny!

UK GPs Still Clueless About E-Cigarettes

Despite a growing number of health bodies promoting the use of e-cigarettes here in the UK, family doctors appear to be still completely unaware of the benefits of making the switch from smoking.

A new report shows a staggering 93% of health professionals had no idea Public Health England has stated vaping is 95% safer than smoking!

I’ve been banging on about this for an absolute age and have absolutely no idea why all the ‘ignorance’…well maybe I do. As I said in the piece – A Third Of UK Cancer Specialists ‘Unclear’ About Benefits Of E-Cigs – vape companies, unlike drug companies, don’t offer HUGE incentives to stock meds such as Champix [the stop smoking suicide drug].

We’ve all heard the tales of your family doctor getting everything from pens to holidays and maybe even a nice fat wad of cash to prescribe certain medication.

Me a cynic? Naw…

The survey of 500 GPs was carried out by our old friends Phillip Morris Inc…yeah I know…but the data is solid and definitely worrying. 64% of family doctors said they’d be very keen to help patients quit smoking however a lowly 7% were likely to suggest e-cigs as a quit tool!

Martin Cullip, one of the New Nicotine Alliance trustees said:

The is a common theme I’ve come across before where many GPs believe vaping to be harmful.

Vaping takes most of the harmful chemicals out – any that are left in there are at very low levels – so you’re delivering the nicotine in a much cleaner form.

There’s no reason why doctors cannot recommend these devices but if they are not aware of the reduction in harm then they’re not going to do that.

And given just 38% of doctors said they were ‘not very familiar’ with the recent NICE guidelines [ National Institute for Health and Care Excellence] – an organization they really should be keeping up to date with – it’s really quite worrying and a missed opportunity to save lives!

PMI spokesman Mark MacGregor said:

This new research shows that in 2019, there is still a lack of knowledge around smoking alternatives and the options that are available for smokers who want to quit.

While health professionals across the country have a huge awareness of e-cigarettes there is still a need for them to get more information about the alternatives available that could help smokers to quit.

With GPs and pharmacists being the first port of call for many smokers seeking support to quit, it’s vital that they are kept fully informed on what alternatives are available.

As the first stop for many smokers looking to quit GPs really and I mean really need to at least know the basics and should definitely know what the current stance from illustrious bodies such as Cancer Research UK – NICE – BMA and Public Health England is!

Vaping A Flash In The Pan!

Not all superheroes vape or wear a cape but the Flash certainly does one of them!

Star of the hit TV show Flash – Grant Gustin – got caught short in more ways than one when he set off a plane’s fire alarms after having a quick toot on his vape…don’t they call that vooping? haha do check that link and I promise it wasn’t me who used the name Jonny in the description

Passengers and the flight crew were obviously shocked and the pilots even donned their oxygen masks…not sure if that’s from the ‘smells’ he left behind or a safety precaution

The superhero quickly owned up and after apologizing for causing a ‘stink’ his device was confiscated lol.

On landing Flash was given a stern ticking off for his ‘vapes on a plane’ incident…

That Scary Driving While Vaping Story Appears AGAIN!

Not sure what it is about the mainstream media’s fascination with recycling doom and gloom vape stories, but they’re at it again with dire warnings about vaping and driving.

I covered this back in February 2018, in the article No…Sensible Vaping Should NOT Be Banned In Cars.

But it must have been a slow day for bad news on vaping stories because it was bloody everywhere!

Once again there’s NO law against vaping in your car if you’re sensible. By that I obviously mean if you’re doing 70 on the motorway and have completely clouded out your view thanks to that cloud chucker you’re tooting on, then of course you can be done for driving whilst distracted.

As Sergeant Carl Knapp of the Sussex Road Policing Unit said:

The smoke caused by vapes are a distraction and the consequences of them can be dire, all it takes is a moment to become distracted and potentially cause a crash and even worse, a fatality.

I strongly advise people to pay 100 per cent attention to the roads when driving as anything that takes that attention away has the potential of severe consequences.

If you are going to vape I advise that you open your windows and blow the vapour directly out, just ensure that you are in full control of your vehicle before doing so.

Vaping whilst driving isn’t illegal but it might come to that if vapers act like idiots…simple as that.

STUPID E-liquid Companies Should Be Made To Cough Up Big Fines

Just when you think you’ve seen it all two of the most stupidest e-liquid companies I’ve ever seen have been slammed by the FDA for selling juice in bottles that look like cough medicine.

They’ve been given 15 days to respond to a FDA warning letter and failure to do so could result in stocks being seized or other punitive action such as fines. It’s not like me to support the FDA by any means, but in this instance I wouldn’t have given Undisputed Worldwide and EZ Fumes [those responsible] a bloody minute.

What the hell we’re they thinking? The bottles and packaging look exactly like cough mixture and whilst I know you need to ingest a lot of nicotine based e-liquid to become sick that’s hardly the point, especially with kids around.

For f**ks sake we have enough problems dealing with the ongoing war against flavoured e-liquids without having to put up with moronic marketing like this.

Not often I get cross, exasperated yes – cross rarely – but this has really pissed me off…

Hawaii Says NO To Total Flavour Ban

At last some good news – sort of – from America where politicians in Hawaii declined to pass a bill that would ban all flavoured e-liquids from the island.

Had the bill passed Hawaii would have been the first state in the USA to make such a move – those supporting it were not happy…bless ’em…

Rep. Chris Todd who voted against the ban quite sensibly suggested kids would still find a way to get them – quite right!

The legislative committee did however agree to raise fines for those found to be selling to minors and to raise taxes on vaping… they give with one and take with another!

A similar bill could rear it’s ugly head next year and Rep. Scot Matayoshi said:

I don’t feel like that the rights of adults to smoke flavored e-cig liquid outweighs our obligation to protect kids from getting addicted to a substance that’s made to be addicting.

Gottlieb’s Sweet Gift To Ned Leaves Vapers Fuming

As we all know, Gottlieb the man formerly known as the ‘commissioner’ has made it quite clear adults don’t like sweet flavours in their e-liquid.

Indeed he kind of created the myth there was no place for anything other than menthol and tobacco flavours given most adults didn’t really have a sweet tooth.

So imagine mine and plenty of other vapers shock on Twitter when we saw this sickly sweet tweet:

If that ‘seizure’ BS was bad enough – that tweet was definitely taking the piss out of the vapers in the US in particular – cheeky yeah – but nasty? Probably.
