Is the War on Vaping in the UK Over? E Cigs To Be Used In Stoptober Campaign

E-cigs To Feature in TV Campaign and NHS Deems them Safe!

E-cigarettes are to be used in the UK Government’s quit smoking Stoptober campaign for the first time ever.

Add to that the news that NHS Scotland has said categorically that e-cigs are definitely less harmful than smoking and we might be seeing the tide of anti-Vaping rhetoric turning.

Stoptober is the UK’s yearly push to get people to stop smoking.

The challenge is that is smokers can stop for 28 days throughout October – the chances are they will be five times more likely to quit completely.

Backed by the NHS and Public Health England the campaign features media and TV ads – which features a guy vaping – and the website features an app – daily help emails and advice on what to use to help quit with e-cigarettes featuring first as a tool!

The website says:

E-cigarettes are a great way to help combat nicotine cravings and carry a fraction of the risk of cigarettes.

This is pretty groundbreaking stuff to say the least!

IBVTA are Involved

And I guess this sudden acceptance of e-cigs being recommended by none other than the NHS has in some part down to he hard work of the Independent British Vape Trade Association [IBVTA] who has teamed up with the Stoptober Campaign.

A spokesman said:

Historically, Stoptober has not had an overtly pro-vaping feel, so when PHE asked to partner with IBVTA and made clear that this year’s campaign would be explicitly supportive of vaping, we felt it was our duty to welcome PHE’s approach and to support them in supporting vaping. We hope that the positive stance taken by PHE will go some way to reversing negative perceptions around vaping and encourage more smokers to visit good high street vape shops and make the switch.

Let’s hope some of the UK’s 9million smokers not only take part in Stoptober – but give vaping a go because this is the clearest indication yet that vaping is fast becoming accepted as the best way to quit smoking by health professionals here in the UK.

NHS says E-Cigs are DEFINITELY Safer than Cigarettes

Whilst over in Scotland the NHS and 20 other health organizations have reached a consensus that vaping is a much safer alternative to smoking.

Dr Andrew Fraser – director of public health science at NHS Health Scotland said:

E-cigarettes have been around for a number of years now and we are learning more and more about them but I think it is safe to say that they are a lot safer than cigarettes. If we are trying to help people make a decision about giving up smoking tobacco then e-cigarettes are a good option to consider.

Wow – two great pieces of news to say the least!
