66% Improvement in Lung Health Via Vaping

A new study shows that smokers switching to Vaping could improve their respiratory functions by as much as 66% – possibly thanks in part to Propylene Glycol.

It’s believed PG is what’s known as an antimicrobial which can kill airborne bacteria including pneumococci, streptococci and staphylococci.

The effects of PG has been well established dating back to the 1940’s research by Dr Theodore Puck and this new study seems to back Dr Puck’s findings up.

The study carried out by scientists from Queen Mary University of London also backs up anecdotal evidence discussed in our article with 85-year-old vaping advocate Terry Walker.

Terry’s doctor reported an amazing 80% improvement in his lung health after quitting smoking and turning to e-cigarettes – read our article HERE.

The grandly titled study: Changes in the Frequency of Airway Infections in Smokers Who Switched to Vaping: Results of an Online Survey – used 941 smokers who switched to vaping for a period of two months.

The results showed:

  • 66% reported a significant improvement in respiratory symptoms.
  • 29% reported “no change.”
  • 5% claimed that their related symptoms seemed to have worsened.

The report’s co-author Professor Peter Hajek said:

The finding of an improvement in respiratory health in people who quit smoking is not surprising because smoking causes increased susceptibility to respiratory infections. In addition to this however, there is also a possibility that inhaled propylene glycol may further magnify this effect. This is because this key ingredient of most e-liquids has antimicrobial effects

Let’s Be Real San Francisco

Following on from the banning of flavoured e-liquids San Francisco vapers are getting help from the most unlikely of sources.

RJ Reynolds the corporation behind cigarette brand Camel are backing a new campaign called Let’s Be Real San Francisco.

The company has a vested interested in getting the ban repealed as they have recently invested in a popular menthol cigarette brand – and given flavoured tobacco is also on the hit list you can see why they want to take on San Francisco.

Despite Big Tobacco part funding the campaign – advocacy groups including CASAA, SFATA, and the American Vaping Association have decided to add their support.

The Let’s Be real campaign states:

The politicians on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors just don’t seem to get it. While they grandstand on banning menthol cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping liquids and some other tobacco products, problems like addressing homelessness, affordable housing and traffic get kicked down the road.
Let’s be real! Bans and prohibitions just don’t work…not in the 1920s, not during the failed War on Drugs, and not today.

It’s hoped enough names can be added to the petition which in turn may force the San Francisco council to re-think or even repeal the crazy rule.

Nevada the Vaping Capital of the USA?

According to the number of vape related tweets coming out of America Nevada is the most popular vaping state.

A study conducted by VaporFi showed that of 55,000 tweets on the subject it was Nevada and coincidentally it’s the state with the lowest anti-vaping laws!

Back in 2015 legislation was passed exempting e-liquids and vape gear from tax and it also has the most vape shops per resident!

VaporFi said:

The top hashtag for vape-related tweets was #vape, followed by #vapelife and #vaping. Based on the tweets we analyzed, people were most likely to post when they were enjoying their first vape of the morning, taking a vape break with friends, trying a new e-juice, visiting a vape shop, using a new mod or device, or doing tricks with clouds of vapor. Some tweets were from retailers announcing new inventory or sales. There were also many tweets that expressed concern about possible regulations that could damage the industry.

You can read the full set of findings on the VaporFi blog HERE.

‘Hot Box Inhaler’ Causes a Stir!

Three fire engines raced to the scene of a ‘fire’ only to find it was a group of people vaping in their flat.

Fire crews from Dorset arrived at the scene after being told ‘smoke’ was pouring out of a top floor window.

Breaking down the door they found a ‘confused’ bunch of vapers oblivious to the commotion they’d caused.

However it’s the language used by the fire service spokesman that made me chuckle though the use of the word ‘smoke’ did make me sigh:

Among vape inhalers they also had a modified vape type of machine which had effectively turned the room inside the flat into, for want of a better phrase, a hotbox. If you are using vape or smoking materials, be considerate of others, try to think of the concern and panic that can be caused by large amounts of smoke and the consequences of having three fire engines tied up when we could be busy elsewhere.

Yup please be responsible when using your ‘hotbox inhalers’!

Regular readers may remember that I managed to set off fire alarms whilst reviewing the Smok TFV12 leaving 20 families in their nightwear stood in the car park whilst two fire-fighters quizzed me as to why the fire alarm panel was showing my flat as the source of the alarm.

So like the fire-fighters said – be more responsible with those hot box inhalers!

And Finally…Love Island is Totally Wicked!

Apparently there’s a TV show on at the moment that’s ‘gripping the nation’ given it has quite a bit of naked tanned flesh and what you might call totally wicked sex scenes.

Given I don’t watch or even own a TV I have been able to keep ‘abreast’ of the developments on Love Island with the odd tweet or update on my various social media sites.

For the record I have absolutely zero interest in this type of ‘entertainment’ though I have to admit the odd photo of a scantily clad lady on my timeline makes a refreshing change from vape and political related items

It used to be a case of No Sex Please We’re British – however it now seems to be smoking that offends the sensibilities of the UK public – judging by the complaints to Ofcom anyway – including a letter of concern from none other than the British Lung Foundation!

Apparently the show is filled with steamy sex romps [gotta love tabloid-eeze lol] which is OK however the sheer amount of bright young things chain smoking is certainly NOT OK.

Ummm wonder how many complaints the BBC used to get over the amount of fags Dot Cotton used to smoke – but I digress.

To combat the before and after sex cigarettes the producers have flown in boxes of what one newspaper called ‘fake fags’ and ‘vape sticks’.

The stock pile of what I shall now refer to as ‘after sex sticks’ – I wanted to call them ‘hot boxes’ but felt that was too smutty – were delivered by our old friends from Totally Wicked!

MD of Totally Wicked Fraser Cropper said:

There is never a situation where it is better to smoke than it is to vape. I am therefore delighted that the producers of Love Island have made vape products available to those contestants who wish to switch from smoking to the significantly less harmful alternative of vaping. This decision also sends out a positive message to the millions of people who watch Love Island and who may themselves now consider switching to vaping.

Nicely played Totally Wicked…well played indeed!
