Vype Pebble Kit Reviewed

Vaping Meets Rap With this Closed System Device

It’s cool and funky to look at and Brit rapper Tinie Tempah was brought in to promote the Vype Pebble Kit [I admit I had to Google him lol].

So Vype are obviously promoting their latest ‘pod mod’ to the younger vapers out there. As a hip ‘down with the kids’ grandad it goes without saying I was the obvious choice to review it.

For those not in the know a ‘pod mod’ is a disposable closed system vaping device where a cartridge is snapped onto the battery.

They are clean – easy to operate and are perfect for everyday out and about vaping.

You can see a full range of pod mod/closed system vape reviews here. But come back to that later, we have a Pebble review to be getting on with!

So is my review of the Vype Pebble Kit ‘Written in the Stars’ and am I ‘Not Letting Go’ of this little vaping gizmo [thanks Google] let’s take a look.

This product was received free of charge for the purposes of review. As always our views are our own.

In The Box

It’s a functional slide out sleeve packaging – and again we see that ridiculous TPD warning label on the front.

  • 1x Pebble device
  • 1x Pebble refill cartridge: Golden Tobacco
  • 1x USB charging cable
  • 1x Pebble user guide

There’s not a lot in the box if I’m honest – you get the battery – the charger – the e-liquid pod and small instruction manual.

As you can see I received the neon lime ‘lizard green’ version – other colours include: black – yellow – red and blue.

Key Features

Like all the closed system pod mods the key features are simplicity – ease of use and leak free ‘pod’ changes.

All you need to do with the Pebble is snap the cartridge on – press the fire button for one second and vape away – there’s no need to hold the fire button down.

I only received an 18mg nicotine Golden Tobacco flavoured cartridge included with the kit – so I can’t comment on the other refill flavours:

  • Fresh Apple
  • Master Blend [tobacco]
  • Smooth Vanilla
  • Tingling Mint
  • Wild Berries

The pods are available in a variety of nicotine strengths ranging from zero to 18mgs.

Design and Build Quality

To all intents and purposes the Vype Pebble looks exactly like one of those hi-lighter pens if a little flattened out.

It’s well-made if a little plasticcy – and snaps together well but without that satisfying click other closed systems I’ve tried have.

Might sound silly but without that ‘click’ you do instinctively check that it’s in place.

Not sure if it’s just the one I’ve received but the mouthpiece is extremely wobbly which means sometimes the connections don’t quite meet and you can get a fresh air vape.

In order to get a decent vape I found myself having to literally push the device hard against my lips to complete the seal – very annoying.

Getting the pod off can be a pain too.

Vype has added little grippy bits on the side of the cartridge which are tiny and offer little if any grip and given the mouthpiece is curved your fingers do slip when pulling the pod off.

Design wise it’s certainly striking to look at with the coloured batteries against the black mouthpiece looking very smart.

It’s slim and light as feather meaning it will slip into your pocket or bag with ease.

How Does the Vype Pebble Perform?

OK mine arrived with hardly any battery life and took a little over an hour to fully charge up which seems a long time for something so small.

There’s no LED screen just a light with the usual flashing red meaning your battery is dead – right up to solid green meaning it’s fully powered.

There’s a few safety features including auto cut-out after 8 seconds of vaping – if it’s left untouched for 10 minutes the Pebble shuts down as it does after 3 hours of charging.

Using the 18mg nicotine Golden Tobacco cartridge my first few inhales were nothing to write home about – I really had to work at it.

Half an hour in and my head was spinning – I felt like I could ‘Pass Out’ [thanks again Google] with the effort the Vype Pebble was making me put into getting a decent hit.

You’d think 18mg nicotine would give a good throat hit too – sadly it didn’t and the taste wasn’t very nice either.

Vapour wise things were a little better with about the same amount as a normal cigarette – once I’d puffed on it a few times that is.

However, the smell was really quite horrible smelling of stale cigarettes – oh dear this review isn’t going to well is it.

What I Like

If I’m honest – I mean really really honest – there’s not much I like about the Vype Pebble.

OK if I lighten up a little – the design is fun and the mouthpiece [when it stops wobbling around] actually feels nice in my mouth.

What I Don’t Like

I really don’t like the wobble on the mouthpiece and the longer I’ve used the stock cartridge/pod the looser it’s got meaning more than a few ‘fresh air’ vapes.

Even at 18mg nicotine the throat hit most MTL vapers and those new to vaping look for just isn’t there.

Whilst any e-liquid flavour is a relative thing – some love it some hate it – the Golden Tobacco tasted and indeed smelled like ‘stale’ cigarettes.

You can’t vape whilst charging and in the few days I’ve been vaping on it the battery – despite Vype suggesting otherwise – barely lasts half a day.

Also – and whilst I said the design is cool and funky – it does look like an item from a ladies make-up bag – again that’s just my impression

Price-wise, at around £17.99 it’s quite expensive for what you’re getting – though to balance that out x2 refill pods are £5.99 which isn’t too bad.

Final Review Verdict

The Vype Pebble kit is a classic case of style over substance in my humble vaping opinion.

Sure it looks modern and with the neon colours it will indeed appeal to the younger vapers out there – but there are much much better alternatives.

Sooo…

If I was at a Tinie Tempah concert [as if lol] and whilst moshing in the ‘Mosh Pit’ [thanks again Google] and the Pebble dropped out of my pocket – would I scrabble around looking for it at the risk of getting trampled to death?

No – I’d just ‘Let Go’

Pros

  • Small compact and sleek
  • Tinie Tempah likes it

Cons

  • Wobbly mouthpiece
  • Barely any throat hit
  • Pricey
  • No pass through vaping
