Uncontrolled Bleeding Caused by Xarelto

Xarelto® (Rivaroxaban) is a bestselling blood thinner used in the prevention and treatment of blood clots. Unfortunately, it also puts patients at risk of uncontrolled bleeding events.

The biggest concern with Xarelto (unlike some other blood thinners) is that there is no antidote, and the medication cannot be flushed out of the body in the event of an emergency.

Any internal or excessive Bleeding events cannot be controlled when a patient is on Xarelto. Once a patient starts bleeding, they may continue to do so to their death.

Individuals who may be predisposed to Excessive Bleeding Events should not be prescribed Xarelto, and the same goes for pregnant women and children. Doctors are tasked with reviewing a patient’s medical history before prescribing Xarelto, and to look for other safer alternatives which may be better tolerated by the patient.

At the same time, patients are advised not to double dose on Xarelto, and any change in dosage should occur only at the direction of their doctor.

Reports of adverse reactions to Xarelto keep increasing with each passing year. Last year, the FDA received 15,043 reports on Xarelto, which represented a 41 percent increase when compared to the previous year.

Xarelto Use & Side Effects

Xarelto is available via prescription only, and it is manufactured by German pharmaceutical company Bayer AG, and sold under its subsidiary, Johnson & Johnson.

Xarelto became the number 1 blood thinner in the U.S. as of 2014, and millions rely on it every year to prevent blood clots. It is routinely prescribed to individuals who may be at risk for pulmonary embolism as well as those that have had a history of deep vein thrombosis.

Xarelto is also traditionally prescribed to patients who have undergone major surgery, in order to reduce their risk of forming blood clots postoperatively. This usually includes individuals who have had surgery for hip or knee replacements, as well as those that have undergone gastric bypass surgery.

Xarelto Lawsuits & Victim’s Rights

If a loved one suffered serious injury or death due to an uncontrolled bleeding event while on Xarelto, you may have a valid claim for compensation.

Just this month, a Philadelphia state court jury ordered Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson to pay $27.8 million to a married couple over the drugmakers’ “failure to warn of internal bleeding risks” from their blood thinner Xarelto.

When it comes to damages (the amount you’re seeking in a claim), victims are allowed to seek compensation for most types of related losses. This can include past (and future) medical expenses, lost wages, pain & suffering, and more.

The options available to you may depend on your state’s individual laws, so to learn where you stand, find an experienced attorney in your area who offers free consultations. To speak with an attorney about your case today, call 1-877-659-2580.
