Travel Health Essentials

For many people this year might be the first year travelling abroad for a few years. And remembering what you need to pack is always a laborious task but when you haven’t been away for so long it can be more difficult to remember what you would normally take or should take with you.

So, to assist you with this task we’ve pulled together this list of Travel Health Essentials to help you prepare.

Prescribed medication and vaccinations

It is best to plan ahead and ensure that you have sufficient prescribed medications and any appropriate documentation required to take with you. This includes insulin, inhalers and EpiPens that might not be used all the time but be taken as preventative measures. You should also check these to ensure they are in date if they haven’t been checked for a long time.

You will also need to see whether the country you are visiting requires vaccinations or malaria medication. You will need to ensure that you get these at an appropriate interval before your trip, so don’t leave these to the last minute.

Medical and first aid supplies

It is also worth packing some first aid and medical essentials to save yourself the hassle of seeking out supplies if needed whilst away or not being able to get them. These could include:

  • Diarrhoea medicine
  • Antihistamine
  • Antacid
  • Motion sickness tablets
  • Pain killers
  • Antiseptic cream
  • Insect bite cream
  • Bandages
  • Plasters
  • Tweezers
  • Digital thermometer

Other health essentials

You may also want to consider taking other essential items that can prevent Health issues such as hand sanitisers, sunscreen, cream to treat sun burn, insect repellent and water purification tablets.

Health documents

You will need to ensure that you comply with the entry requirements for the country you are going to regarding Covid vaccination and testing and will need to evidence or document this.

You will need to have health insurance as part of your holiday insurance. If visiting Europe, you should have a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which you will need to apply for in advance if you don’t have a valid card already.

You may also need to take with you proof of vaccinations and prescriptions.

Wherever you are going on your holiday, we hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday.
