Mercedes launched into all serious and desperate to break into all market segments and niches: sports cars and coupes, minivans and crossovers, front-wheel-drive models of all types.
You might think that the good old C- and E-classes were completely pushed aside. But these sedans (and, of course, station wagons) sell very well at all times. The old guard is strong in traditions. They are the soul of the concern Mercedes – the manufacturer of invariably flawless machines that bring joy in long-term relationships, and not blinded by passing fun.
It’s time to roll out on the podium a new generation of C-class: the latest technology and modern luxury. Plus, all those qualities that have always characterized the typical Mercedes: strength, reliability and peace of mind. It can anneal (oh, this 3-litre V6!), But it’s totally alien to the sporty style, like BMW’s. And fine. Caesar Caesar’s – let BMW make a wonderful “third series.” Such an aristocrat, like Mercedes, does not feel the need to look at others.
The new C-Class is really new. The body and the chassis are very fresh, half-aluminium and sharpened for future models: the platform will be simultaneously used by the new E, CLS, coupe, cabs, station wagons, three-door and five-door GLK, etc. The size of the beginner increased – it equalled the “eye-catching” E-class W210 1995-2002 years of release. And S-Class shared many auxiliary systems – and it turned out just a space station, not a car.
Even the 1.6-liter diesel in the base C 180 new, built in conjunction with Renault. The line of gasoline engines starts with the model C 200 and ends with a delicious V6 on the C 400. In it besides the mad accelerations, it is worth noting the air suspension with adaptive shock absorbers.
This thing completely isolates you from the earth’s surface, which, on the one hand, is great: you fly over the road like a fighter from “Star Wars”. On the other hand, the untrained vestibular apparatus malfunctions. Especially if you exchange the high-speed highway for mountain serpentine, and the mode Sport + on Comfort. Only half an hour – and green men, in order to avoid excesses, are transplanted in the C 250 BlueTEC with a spring suspension. So what, that diesel – brains straightened, and the car begins to bring pleasure.
The salon is a real masterpiece, with clean modern lines and beautiful backlighting. This is not the faceless rectangle that the previous C-Class sinned. At the same time, the interior is not pretentious. And technologies cannot be called traditional, although they serve the traditional values of Mercedes – safety and comfort.
