The World Premiere of Nan Schwartz’s beautiful “Romanza” that she initially wrote for Violin and Orchestra was performed. “I told her I loved it so much a few months ago that she decided to write an arrangement for Cello & Piano and she sent it to me for my birthday!” said Cecilia enthusiastically. “She was very happy today.”
She went on to say, “the first piece I dedicated was John Williams “Schindler’s List Theme”. I dedicated it to the innocent victims of the horrible war. As an encore, we decided to play Pablo Casals “Birds Song” or “El Cant dels Ocells”. He died on October 22, 1978, exactly 50 years ago. He was celebrated today, worldwide and many cellists played the Birds Song to honor him, especially because it is a message of peace. And we need it more than ever.”
The concert was once again filled with a rapt and appreciative audience and Cecilia tells us she was very happy to be back at the library saying, “Thanks again so much for having Steven and me play at the Library again. Such a joy!”
