Artists, musicians, and merchants gear up to celebrate the fall season with another fun and family friendly “Neighborhood Night-on-the-Town” on Saturday, October 19, from 4 – 9 p.m. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and produced by SPACE, the South Pasadena Arts Crawl welcomes people of all ages to this free event, offering art exhibitions and activities, live music, open houses, food and drink specials, and sales throughout the business district. Mission Street, and adjacent blocks, will be with lively with event activities.

The event poster for the “Fall Crawl,” featuring a colorful ghoul, celebrates the Halloween season with an illustration by local artist Jimi Martinez, who will be showing his artwork at Kaldi Coffee and Tea. Many merchants also embrace the theme: Hotbox Vintage clothing hosts a pumpkin decorating activity; Sugarmynt Gallery celebrates the “Halloween” series of movies with a “Haddonfield 8” exhibit and film screening (with admission fee); and teaching artist Lisa Duardo provides a free all ages art activity featuring Day of the Dead bandana screenprinting and a pumpkin making craft.

Award winning chalk artist Ronny Johnson will create a street mural along the event route.

For the first time, a live music stage near the South Pasadena Metro Station has been added to the Arts Crawl event, hosted by the South Pasadena Music Center and featuring an eclectic line up of student bands performing from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Then Dinosaur Farm and Kidd’s Jewelry Heist team up to present a performance by the community favorite “Mission Street Music Club” from 8 – 9 p.m. The Pascale Music Institute’s young string players perform at Jones Coffee, Handle Gifts hosts a performance by singer/songwriter Alicia Blue, along with an art exhibit by Maureen Maki, and Griffin’s at Kinsale hosts the local band “The Drive.”

SPARC presents a variety of activities at South Pasadena’s City Hall including a closing reception for Deborah Van Der Zaag and David Johnson’s shows at the SPARC Gallery. In the courtyard, photo ops get creative with a unique backdrop made by SPARCer Jeanie Joe and inspired by artist Loraine Triolo’s book, “People Who Look Like Art.” At The SPARC Gallery @ the Chamber of Commerce hosts a reception from 6 – 9 p.m. for the opening of “The Human Form,” work by artist Yuki Toy.

Getting creative at the event is easy as Two Kids Coffee offers a printmaking activity, Adobe Creative presents a glitter tattoo artist and balloon twisting fun, and Ellen’s Silkscreening provides a coloring station for all ages.

The South Pasadena Public Library partners with LitFest Pasadena to present a free COMBCHELLA journaling workshop. Writer Camari Carter-Hawkins will guide people to find their way back to their creative selves through writing activities. Workshops are from 5 – 6 p.m. and 7- 8 p.m. In between workshops, participants are encouraged to decorate and design a blank journal provided by the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library. Foodies and those wanting to imbibe can start the afternoon of the Crawl at Mission Wines who will offer beers on tap and selected wines at discounted prices from 1 – 5 p.m. The Munch Company could be your next stop as they host a special taco and candlelight karaoke night inside from 5 – 8 p.m., along with a “shopper’s alley” outside, featuring a variety of artisans.

Food trucks Sticky Rice, Austyn’s Burger and Dreamy Creations offer food options along the event route. Shoppers can take advantage of one-of-a-kind artisan wares and clothing for sale. The Artisans’ Alley, an outdoor marketplace on Meridian Ave., near the Metro, presents fifteen artisans and craftspeople showcasing gifts and unique items including art, jewelry, toys, t-shirts, and more. Pleated fabric jewelry and accessory artist from Greece, Alexandra Tsoukalam will be at Rue de Mimo, and Camille de Pedrini hosts a trunk show featuring Coast to Coast Vintage. Both stores also offer Arts Crawl sales.

Patrons can park in the Mission/Meridian Parking lot (north of Mission Street, on Meridian Ave.), and the Metro Gold Line South Pasadena Station will put you right in the heart of the event.
