ENVIRONMENT: Saving Trees | Sunday May 6th – Volunteers Hit the Sidewalks

Residents of South Pasadena take a lot of pride in the trees that line their streets. However, during  the recent drought, the trees were hit hard as the mature canopy struggled under the severe weather. Many trees were lost, and many others were left with debilitating immune systems that made them susceptible to diseases and pests. To serve as a lifeline to the urban canopy, South Pasadena Beautiful with the assistance of the City of South Pasadena, is launching a volunteer program called TreeLine.

South Pasadena Beautiful is a 50-Year Non-Profit Organization | Join or Donate and Preserve the Beauty of our City

Through an educational campaign and direct contact with property owners, dedicated volunteers will inform residents on effective watering techniques to support our trees in time of need. The first phase of TreeLine will focus on watering young trees to improve survival over the hot, dry, summer months.

TreeLine will provide volunteers with a brief training session on Sunday, May 6 at 9am at Eddie Park 2017 Edgewood Drive South Pasadena, CA 91030 before heading out to start conversations and deliver tree watering kits with neighbors.  Anyone is eligible to be a volunteer and volunteer hours count toward community service. To sign up or ask questions, email [email protected] Trees are long-term investments and provide greater benefits to things like property value, energy and water use reduction well as air pollution reduction.

“We hope that our efforts will serve to bring awareness about how South Pasadena will be effected if our trees were lost and provide the tools needed for every household to get involved in saving this precious resource.” – Marianne Veach, South Pasadena Beautiful board member.
