The Wrong Dating Match Can Be Expensive

If you’re in the mood for a real Debbie-downer of a post, you’re in luck! Ok, so this post isn’t going to be THAT bad, but we are going to look at a few worst-case scenarios today that could happen. Why? Well, at least we’re looking for a positive reason. We’re taking a look because we want you to realize why being selective in your online (and real-world) dating lives is so important not just for your heart, but for your wallet as well.

So, let’s set the scene. You’re dating online, and you find someone that you think is not that bad. You don’t think they’re incredible, but you decide you might as well go out with them because you’re bored. You don’t really foresee much of a future with the person but hey, what the heck, right?

What could go wrong, right?

This is Cruel

Before we go any further, we need to point out that doing this is cruel. The person that you’re talking with is probably a lot more into you than you obviously are into them. If you don’t foresee any chance of a possible future, then you’re just leading them on and setting them up for heartache. We would hope that you aren’t that cruel of a person and that you aren’t that selfish. If you’re bored, get a hobby. Don’t take advantage of lonely singles just to get a rise.

Back to the post now; we just had to get that disclaimer out of the way

You Waste Money on Dates

So, how can the wrong match be expensive? Well, let’s first look at the most obvious reason why. If you’re the one that’s paying for the dates, you’re spending money that is not helping you get any closer to your goal of finding love. Even if the other person is paying, you’re still spending money on getting ready, using makeup, getting to the date, and probably a bunch of other costs that you aren’t thinking of.

If you’re the one who is paying for the date, then it’s probably pretty clear why it’s expensive. You should be using your money towards singles that might turn out to be something more. Sure, if you’re just looking for a fling, then you can disregard this entire post except for the disclaimer above.

Your Time is Worth Money

If you’ve never thought about your time as being valuable, we need to chat. When you are using your time for something that is not helping you achieve your goals, you are wasting your time. Sure, this is fine if you are just relaxing and lounging on the couch playing video games, but not when you think you’re getting any closer to finding love.

You could be using your time to work or do more productive things than going on dates that are a waste of your time. We aren’t saying to try and apply a dollar amount to your time or anything like that. All we are saying is that you need to be aware that your time on this Earth is precious and if you want to be accomplishing your goals, you need to be dedicating your time where it serves you the best.

The Final Word

We could have continued down the dark road or what-ifs, and you would see that this can get worse. If you date someone long-term that you don’t see a future with, all of this just gets worse. Here’s the takeaway. If you are just looking for a fling, that’s fine, but you need to be upfront about it and make sure that the person you are going on a date with is fully aware of that.

If you are trying to find that special someone, stop going on dates with people that you know it’s not going to work out with. It’s mean to them, and it’s mean to yourself. You’re wasting your time and your money on things that aren’t helping you get any closer to finding that special someone.
