The Plot
Set in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, “Fighter” unfolds as a terrorist organization led by Azhar Akhtar plots to attack India, targeting the Srinagar Air Force Station. Group Captain Rakesh “Rocky” Jai Singh forms a team called “Air Dragons.” The team includes skilled pilots Shamsher “Patty” Pathania, Minal “Minni” Rathore, and others. As the team bonds, Minni develops feelings for Patty, haunted by past loss.
Following an attack in Pulwama, the Indian Air Force, with RAW agent Zarina Begum, counters at Balakot, leading to conflict with Pakistan. When Pakistani forces capture two team members, Patty’s insubordination results in his suspension. Meanwhile, Rocky harbours resentment toward Patty for his sister’s death.
Learning of their teammates’ dire situation, Patty leads a covert mission to rescue them, culminating in Akhtar’s demise. As Minni and Patty reunite, “Fighter” celebrates their triumph amidst adversity.

Unbiased Movie Review: Fighter 2024 (Bollywood | Hindi)
Released on 25th January 2024 – Republic Day weekend, “Fighter” received mixed reviews but grossed over ₹316 crore worldwide, becoming 2024’s top-grossing Indian film.
Siddharth Anand’s “Fighter” serves up a patriotic action extravaganza. The film starts with Sukhoi aircraft performing daring manoeuvres, setting the tone as viewers are introduced to the elite squad, the Air Dragons.
Led by Squadron Leader Shamsher “Patty” Pathania (Hrithik Roshan), the team includes Taj (Karan Singh Oberoi), Meenal Rathore, aka Minnie (Deepika Padukone), and Basheer (Akshay Oberoi). The cast also includes Rakesh ‘Rocky’ Jay Singh (Anil Kapoor) as their commander. The intense tension between Patty and Rocky and references to a catastrophic past episode sets the stage for drama and thrills.
Known for his action-packed entertainment films – the director, Siddharth Anand, delivers slick arrangements and beguiling drama inside the cockpit. Action directors Sunil Rodrigues, Parvez Shaikh, and Se-Yeong Oh seamlessly captivate audiences with fight choreography and white-knuckle stunts.
Satchith Paulose, the cinematographer, deserves an ovation for lending the film gravitas amid stunning landscapes. However, predictable tracks and clichés detract from the film’s appeal. It is notably the reliance on familiar tropes of a Pakistani militant threatening India.
While the film’s pacing is uneven, especially in the second half, the real action sequences keep viewers hooked. Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone shine in their roles, showcasing excellent chemistry and emotional depth. Anil Kapoor delivers a dependable performance, while Karan Singh Oberoi and Akshay Oberoi hold their own among the stalwarts. Rishabh Sawhney’s portrayal of the antagonist, Azhar Akhtar, must catch up to expectations.
Despite its lack of originality in plot and narrative, “Fighter” offers an engaging cinematic experience, with its killer aerial combat sequences leaving a lasting impression on action enthusiasts.
