Starting with the Fall Creators Update of Windows 10, the company has introduced lots of new features and one out of them is Windows 10 Color Filters. In today’s article, I will discuss everything you need to know about this feature and how to enable it.

Color Filter is a part of Ease of Acess system in Windows 10. The purpose of adding this feature is to enhance operating system for the users facing various vision issues while working on it. This new Color Filter feature will work at system level what that means is that the effect of this feature will be on all the software including the third party apps accompanied with default Windows apps.

The colors filters feature in Windows 10 will offer you various colors filters which include:

• Greyscale
• Invert
• Greyscale Inverted
• Deuteranopia
• Protanopia
• Tritanopia

Enable Windows 10 Color Filter Feature

Here in this article, you will learn how to enable color filter feature in Windows 10

1. Launch the Settings App. For that Press WIN + I keys on the keyboard.

2. Navigate to Ease of Access -> Color and High Contrast.

3. On the right pane, turn ON the feature which reads “Apply color filters to the screen“. By default, it is OFF.

Alternatively, you can WIN + CTRL + C key combination to enable color filter quickly.

By default, the Greyscale filter is selected. But you can also change the filter which looks like shown in the following screenshot:

4. In case, the Greyscale filter is not your cup of tea of it’s not perfect according to your current Windows 10 theme, then click on the “Choose a Filter” drop-down list and select the filter of your choice.

That’s it.

You can also configure these filters using the registry editor. For that:

Launch the Registry Editor by searching regedit in Start menu search bar. After that navigate to the following key:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ColorFiltering

On the right pane, First look for “Active” DWORD value. Double click and check the Value data of the following DWORD value. If

• Value Data is 0, it means Color Filter is Disabled
• Value Data is 1, it means Color Filter is Enabled

You can also change Color Filter right from here by changing value data of the DWORD value named as  “FilterType”

If

• Value Date is 0, it means Greyscale filter is enabled
• Value Date is 1, it means Invert filter is enabled
• Value Date is 2, it means Greyscale Inverted filter is enabled
• Value Date is 3, it means Deuteranopia filter is enabled
• Value Date is 4, it means Protanopia filter is enabled
• Value Date is 5, it means Tritanopia filter is enabled

After adding Value Data for your preferred color filter type. You need to Sign out from your Windows 10 account to apply the changes.
