Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost and Microsoft.Windows.Cortana applications need to be installed correctly

Lots of users complaining that when they’re running Windows 10 Start Menu Troubleshooter, they receiving “Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost and Microsoft.Windows.Cortana applications need to be installed correctly error”. The worst part is that even the troubleshooter failed to fix this error.

In this article, you will read about some of the possible ways using which you can get rid of this Windows 10 Start Menu troubleshooter error.

After checking the error message it is clear that troubleshooter asking users to reinstall two processes because some kind of corruption took place.

Check out these suggestion to troubleshoot the issue, but first, create system restore point

Fix: Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost and Microsoft.Windows.Cortana applications need to be installed correctly

1. Run the System File Checker

Launch the Command Prompt. For that, type CMD in start menu search bar and when Command Prompt appears in the search result make right click on it and run as administrator.

Once Command Prompt is opened, type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow

Once the scanning process is completed, reboot your system and check out if this fixes the error. Else try the next method.

2. Repair Windows Image.

For that, again launch the Command Prompt as administrator just like discussed above. In the command terminal type following command and hit enter.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Once the scanning process is completed, reboot your system and check out if it fixes the issue.

3. Reinstall the Start menu

To get rid of same issue, you can reinstall the Start menu. For that, you need to launch Windows PowerShell by typing the same in Start menu search bar. When it appear in the search results, make right click on it and Run as administrator.

In the PowerShell terminal, you need to type the following command and hit enter.

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

After that, type the following command to reregister Cortana.

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode
-Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml

Restart after the scan is over and see if it helped. You may also use our FixWin to run System File Checker with a click.

Once both the commands executed. Reboot your system and check if this fixes the error.

4. Reset This PC

If none of the suggestion discussed above fixes the error, then the last resort is to back your data and Reset the PC. For that, launch the Settings app and navigate to Update & security -> Recovery. Under Reset this PC option, click on the Get Started button and follow the instructions.
