Method 1: Check your NAT is set to Open

You see the following error message your network settings block the party chat while you are starting or joining a party on Xbox One. This generally occurs because of incompatible Network Address Translation (NAT) types. There are three types of NAT available: Open, Moderate, and Strict.

  • Open NAT: You are able to join and host multiplayer games with other people, and you also easy chat with them who have any NAT type on their network.
  • Moderate NAT: You’re able to play multiplayer games and chat with some people. But, you can’t play or hear with others, and in this case, you won’t be selected as the host of a match game.
  • Strict NAT: You’re only able to play and chat multiplayer games with people who set Open NAT type. And you cannot also be selected as the host of a match game.

So, in order to fix your network settings are Blocking Party chat on Xbox one, you need to make sure that set your NAT type to Open. First, you will need to check your current NAT type. To do that follows these steps:

Step 1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Step 2. Then you select Settings > All Settings.
Step 3. Select Network.

From the Network settings screen, under Current Network Status, you can see your current NAT type. If your NAT type is set to Strict or Moderate, you have to switch it to Open.

Method 2: Add your friend to your allowed list

Step 1. Press the Xbox button to go to the guide
Step 2. Then click Sign in and choose your account to sign in.
Step 3. After signed in, press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Step 4. Under Friends & clubs, you select Find someone.
Step 5. Look for a gamertag. Be sure to pay close attention to the gamertag’s spelling and spacing.
Step 6. Then you select Add friend. This will add your friend to your allowed list.
Step 7. Select Friend or Favorite to select what kind of information you share with that person. Then select Submit.

Method 3: Turn on Energy-saving mode

By default, your Xbox One uses Instant-on option that sets your Xbox One into a standby mode. However, it seems that this feature can cause issues with your NAT. According to some users, you can resolve your network settings are blocking party chat error by turning on Energy-saving mode.

Step 1. Press the Xbox button on your Xbox One controller.
Step 2. Then select Settings > Power & startup.
Step 3. From Power options section, you choose the Power mode and press the A button on the controller.

Method 4: Restart your modem

Step 1. You look for the power button on your modem, then press it to turn it off.
Step 2. Once your modem turns off, wait for one minute or more.
Step 3. Then you press the power button again to turn on your modem.

Method 5: Change the MTU Settings on your router

To fix your network settings are blocking party chat error message, you might have to change your router’s MTU settings. You sign in to your router’s configuration page and look for MTU settings. Then make sure that set MTU value around 1458 and save the changes.
