4 Solutions To Fix: Windows Media Player Server Execution Failed In Windows 10/8/7

Some Windows users have issues with Windows Media Player Server Execution Failed. When they try to open a video file or music file using Windows Media Player, WMP will freeze for a time and show the Server Execution Failed as picture below:

How to Fix Windows Media Player Server Execution Failed Error In Windows 10/8/8.1/7

Solution 1: Change Local Group Settings

Using an elevated Command Prompt to add a new entry to the local group Administrator Settings. To do that, you doing the following:
Step 1. You launch Command Prompt as Administrator.
Step 2. Then you type exactly the following command then hit Enter:

NET LOCALGROUP administrators “NT Authority\Local Service” /ADDf

Step 3. Finally, you restart your computer and check to see if the Windows Media Player server execution failed problem is fixed

Solution 2. Reinstall WMP

You can fix Windows Media Player server execution failed error in Windows computer by reinstalling WMP. To do that, you doing the following:
Step 1. You open Run command box by pressing Windows key + R.
Step 2. Then you type the following

C:\Windows\System32\OptionalFeatures.exe 

and press Enter to open Turn Windows Features On or Off.

Step 3. Next, you uncheck Media Features checkbox then click OK.

Step 4. Now, you need to restart your computer. After restarting your computer, you repeat steps # 1-2 above.
Step 5. Finally, you check the Media Features checkbox, click OK and restart your computer once again.

Solution 3: Using Registry Editor

Note: Before doing this solution, you should create a System Restore point first. Because making mistakes when manipulating registry could affect your system.
Step 1. First of all, you open Registry Editor by pressing Windows Key + R, then type regedit and click OK.

Step 2. In the left pane of Registry Editor, you go to following registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Step 3. Next, you need to find SeparateProcess named registry DWORD (REG_DWORD). Double click it to modify its Value data.

Step 4. Now you put 0 in the Edit DWORD Value. Then click OK.

Step 5. Finally, you can close Registry Editor and restart your computer. The Windows Media Player Server Execution Failed error will be resolved.

Solution 4: Download Microsoft’s HotFix

If you don’t like all solutions above, I will give share a very easy and secure method. At the moment, Microsoft has released a HotFix to fix this problem. You just download this link to get the HotFix for your computer to automatically resolve this problem.
