What Is The Cost Of Drilling A Borehole For Farm Irrigation In Nigeria

What's the rough price range for drilling a borehole for farm Irrigation?

Cost is dependent on the Depth of the permanent water table. Before you embark on this, you must ensure that a geological survey is carried out to determine the best location of aquifer and the depth. The cost of that cannot be more than #20k. The cost of drilling cannot be less than #8k per metre.

However, so many factors determines this. Where and the depth drilling has to go before getting water. Just understand that there is no rough estimate on this, your location determines how much would be required for this project.

There are places you can dig a borehole  around 90-150 and still there are places you spend up to 1.3m-1.5m. So, this question would have been strictly within the location you want to dig this borehole pls.

For some states in Nigeria, like in Ogun State, you should be budgeting within 300-400k. But until after geophysical survey.. before you can determine the depth. So from the depth..we can determine the cost. Depending on your location.

#4500 and #5000 depends on the nature of the ground. It's still raging between #4,500 and #5,000 per meter, then multiplied by the number of meters they will drill to get to the water level, according to the results of the survey conducted on the land e.g 150 meter deep will cost you between #675k and #700k. The other cost shall be added.

Also, this price is different based either it is for manual or mechanical drilling.

Someone whom I know did his last year (2022). His budget was 600k+ but ended up spending over 900k due to the long depth they had to go before getting water. He was almost giving up but at last they found water.

You need to be smart too because some of these guys who are into it are crooks. They can play games with you especially with the depth.

* Does that price includes pipes, tanks and the tap head or just the hole drilling?

No. Only drilling, casing and installation. There's different price for thr northern part and the southern part. In the northern part, it's about 5k-6k per meter. This is without accessories. When you add accessories. It will cost you over 700k to get to water and 900k to get to water with accessories. Just my extinctions.

Enugu is one of the most expensive place to sink a bore hole. The water level in some places is up to 500 ft, which is about 200m. With this you need 2hp sumo pump. It is best you contact a geo physicists before you go into such projects to avoid double lost. About2.5 to 3m should be available for this location.

Firstly, your geophysical survey. Then it's depends per meter.

There's no fixed cost as the final cost is determined by location and geological survey of the farmland in question. It all depend on the area. You need to check the soil first by professional to determined whether the water is close to surface or very deep and to get exactly the point where you see water. Some location it won't cost you more than 200k while some will cost you close to a million or above.

Yes, I know someone from Delta State Ughelli, did his for 40,000 last year (2022). Truth is, borehole can be cheap in Delta state depending on your area. In some areas in Delta State, they dug 80 feet for as low as 75k. Depend on your location e.g in Ondo West LG AREA you'll spend about 300k to 400k. But there in isoko west and ndokwa east it's about 80 to 90k. In Kogi state, it is between 700k tank and pump inclusive. However, in biu lga of Borno, it is 10k per meter.

Yeah, location matters to some people. They're counting on the number of pipes that into the group. If it is one that reach water level charges differs and so on and so forth. You take a survey and then the survey will determine how many meters that can get you water. People into it (the drillers), usually dug and drill 11,000 per meter after which client talk of installations. Rough estimate for 100 meters borehole will take somewhere like roughly #300,000. It depends on your location. Contact borehole drillers themselves to know the price. Hence, get 2 or more quotations and make comparison and don't pass through anyone to avoid inflation of price. My candid advice to you is that go for machine drillers and not Hand drillers for you to get quality job to avoid double payment.

DEVELOPING AN ARTIFICIAL LAKE BY DRILLING FOR IRRIGATION.

You can develop an Artificial Lake by drilling of good boreholes. For example an artificial lake can be developed with a width of 50 meters, 100 meters length and a 50 feet depth. 30 boreholes can be drilled at the bottom of the artificial lake with a drilled depth of 100 feet to be uniformly drilled all around the entire perimeter rectangular shaped artificial lake at 10 meters interval spaces. The artificial lake will also absorb rain water. the artificial lake must be set close to the irrigation farm to water the crops, fruits, etc, which will be pumped from the artificial lake.

This sound like great idea. Much better than borehole which is not recommended for farming.
