Overview of the Projects to Support Climate Initiatives

Are you working on a project that seeks to promote or enable an environmentally friendly way of life or development? Your effort help or will help the City and its residents reach these climate goals? Respond to the call for projects, and the City of Brussels will help you.

The City of Brussels provides subsidies for the execution of local projects on its territory that contribute to the transformation of its territory to a resilient city while also having positive impacts on the climate and the environment.

Its goals for the City’s territory are straightforward and ambitious:

• Reduce carbon gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
• Attain carbon neutrality by 2050.
• Increase the territory’s resilience in the face of climate change

Themes of the Projects to Support Climate Initiatives

• Renovation and energy: any project that reduces the influence of buildings on the climate and the environment (prioritizing reused, durable, recyclable, and/or local construction materials, assuring optimal building energy efficiency, and lowering energy usage).
• Nature and biodiversity: All project that aims to protect or improve nature and biodiversity.
• Mobility and air quality: any project that promotes soft and/or shared mobility while also improving air quality.
• Water: A project whose primary objectives are directly related to the sustainable and integrated management of water resources and aquatic habitats (rainwater, surface water, groundwater, tap water, etc.).
• Zero waste and resources refers to any effort that aims to reduce, reuse, recycle, or recover waste resources.
• Sustainable food and urban agriculture refer to any project that involves the responsible and sustainable production of food in cities, the reappropriation of urban space for sustainable food purposes, or the promotion of local, seasonal, and respectful food. Environmental, social, and ethical considerations.
• Economic and solidarity transition: any non-profit project that facilitates the transition from a linear economy to a sustainable and local economy (circular economy, social and solidarity economy, etc.) while also promoting the transition’s inclusion and accessibility to all.
• Events, culture, and tourism: any initiative involving the long-term transition of events, cultural activities, or sightseeing.
• Any environmental awareness or education activity involving children or young people.

The Projects to Support Climate Initiatives Amount

As part of this call for proposals, they will differentiate between two categories of projects:

• Category A projects are those for which the amount of subsidy requested is less than or equal to 10,000 euros. If the job is completed by fewer than three people, the amount is limited to a maximum of €500.
• Category B projects are those for which the subsidy requested is greater than 10,000 euros but less than 40,000 euros.

Propose a project that will help Brussels become more sustainable and resilient in the face of climate change. It can be classified into the following categories: renovation and energy, nature and biodiversity, mobility and air quality, water, waste, and resources, sustainable food and urban agriculture, economic and solidarity transition, events, culture and tourism, childhood and youth, and awareness.

Localisation: All projects, regardless of kind, must be implemented and carried out within the boundaries of the City of Brussels (Pentagon, Louise, Laeken, Neder-OverHeembeek, Haren, Quartier Nord, and/or European Quarter).

Who can Apply for the Projects to Support Climate Initiatives?

• A non-profit organization or group with legal status.
• Mature and capable natural person.
• A de facto association is a body made up of inhabitants, neighbours, parents, and so on.
• An educational institution or host environment.
• An SME
• And be domiciled in the City of Brussels or have their headquarters there.
